Yogi Berra passed away today. He was featured in a question in Joe Trela's million-dollar stack. He also played some baseball. --Bob

I'm almost certain he appeared on Super All Star Password Pyramid at one time. If only we had our resident game show expert to give us guidance on the salient points in Berra's career. One mark I doubt will be broken is playing in 75 World Series games. The chances of anyone playing in at least 11 World Series in a career now is rather slim.

Using IMDB, I don't see him listed in any of the Password variants, but I do see he was on "What's My Line" as a "mystery guest" three times in the early 1960s, and as a contestant in 1952 for "The Name's The Same."

Not according to IMDb.

However he was on The Names's the Same 1 Oct 1952 and What's My Line? (as a guest) 5 Aug 1951, 2 Jul 1961, 26 Apr 1964.

Just for the hell of it, I checked the standings from July 15, 1980 to see if either team was in contention for the postseason. They were..... but also on their daily pages, Retrosheet lists the Major League players who were born on that day... and it's a really dandy collection of weird names that came into the world the same day Yogi's record no longer stood:

My mom was a lifelong fan of Yogi Berra. We piled into the car and went fishing one Sunday, and RadioSportsDude reported that the Yankees game had just started. When we were headed home about 12 hours later, the game was still going, still tied, and Berra was still catching. I think the game went 22 innings. I don't remember any other details, just how much Mom admired that and recalled it the rest of her days.

He was a great guy. "That restaurant is too crowded, nobody goes there anymore." I'd forgotten about the one that LB just posted. Just adorable.

According to internet stuff, a friend named Lawrence Berra "Yogi" because he looked & walked like a yogi in a movie. A yogi played by an actor; it wasn't a documentary.

The bear came later, was named after Mr. Berra, & he wasn't happy about it.
