Zachhoran has just become the first person to ever be banned from the WWTBAM Bored.
That is all.

After watching the Giants find a way to blow an impossible lead to blow against Dallas, I can at least get some solace here.
Inquiring minds want to know...

Who's next? Can we ban everyone whose posts consist of at least 50% fringe political talking points that are utterly predictable? And let's ban all the pro and anti squirrel rabble-rousers. Or maybe we should have a traditional lottery. I'm open minded about how to thin the herd and get rid of the undesirables. I'm sure we've all annoyed someone around here at some point, so good luck to all of us.

Ed, I'm disappointed in you. This isn't a difference of opinion, this is a safety concern.

Thanks for the link, Megan. I never visit the J Board during the off season, so I had no idea this subject had blown up over there. I knew the creep has had a fully deserved reputation as an online sicko for almost 20 years, but I'm still not clear on what was the recent straw that broke the camel's back. As far as I knew, he had been mostly on his best behavior lately, and the main thing he did to annoy people here was not including R.I.P. in his frequent death notices. He did slip back into his creep mode recently with a comment about the new J! season, and I'm pretty sure that I was the only person who expressed disapproval on this board. I'm probably naive, but I had hoped that if he could get positive feedback for his legitimate posts about game show history, he would feel less need to seek attention through outrageous behavior.
If we were ever going to ban anyone here, we (LB, I assume) certainly picked the most deserving one to set the precedent. I definitely was not defending ZH by musing about whom we should ban next. No one should ever be subjected to the way he treated you and many other women. I fully support you and I am glad he is gone. He did it to himself. I'm sorry he diminished the positive experience that being on a game show should be for you and for every contestant.
I did not have all the facts when I wrote my earlier post. I still don't, but I am 100% on your side.

Did he offer one "cyberial cigar" too many? (I know he's infamous on some of the game show message boards for that line and has harassed female game show contestants in private messages, but I plead ignorance on what he's done recently to "break the camel's back").

I'm imagining whatever prompted the decision to ban Zach happened behind the scenes, and perhaps was even months in the making. All that is important is that the right decision has been made.
Now LB, I'm sure you've thought of this already, but the new challenge is going to be making sure he stays out. Mark my words he'll be trying to get back in with new monikers, some more subtle than others. Shortly after being banned from another forum I frequent, he tried to get back in no less than 75 times. That number may well be north of 100 by now.

This is a huge loss for the Bored.
Now we'll never know what game shows certain dead celebrities were on.

I had not read the J Bored thread when I made the decision to pull the plug on Zach last night, and I'll admit to being unaware of what had brought up the latest round of trouble. I just know that despite not having a whole lot of time for internet things before work, I found myself with both a PM from a Bored member and an email from one of the J Bored mods concerning why he should be banned. The issue of his past harrassment of minors was brought up in the email (As well as discussed in the thread RB linked to), and was probably what served as the final straw for me. That, and it was essentially a "fuck it, I'm tired of dealing with this shit Zach's stirring up" kind of deal. I didn't figure anyone would miss him or lament his loss anyway...
BTW, my day has totally been made by the fact that someone who posted in that J! thread has a Vinyl Scratch avatar....

Since all new registrations go to virtual purgatory, and I never check the waiting room unless someone gives me a heads up, I don't think that will be a problem...

Count me among those who were fortunately unaware of the full nature of Zack's compulsion. I found his cyberial cigars to be annoying, like his lack or RIP's, but there's a number of annoying people on this Bored (not me, of course, I'm never annoying). I should have guessed it when Zack opened up about his past that one time on the Bored, but I didn't. I apologize to RB and the others on the various Boreds whose enjoyment of some of the biggest moments in their lives was trashed by someone whose own life is a rather sorry mess. My failure, and that of a number of others, to fully understand what was going on allowed him to remain around far longer than he should have, and I'm sorry for not realizing this and protesting more forcefully.
And I don't want to alarm anyone, but please be vigilant, especially anyone who lives close to Zack. Sometimes, there's more to cyberstalkers than just garbage talk.

I don't know specifically what he has done, but even if it borders on criminal, since his actions have been from behind a keyboard, the FBI is the place to contact.
You can find your local field office of the FBI at their website, fbi.gov and they will take it from there.
Due to his harassment of minors, there isn't a big step from what we know he has done publicly to what he is doing privately, and victims coming forward and reporting this guy could save someone in the future.

A necessary action, Beast. This was a measure needed to make a significant portion of our family feel more secure...all the justification you need.
For my part, I would like to apologize to Rafferbee and every other bb and visitor here impacted by this crap. Ignorance, as they say, is no excuse, so this is not an excuse...but I sure was ignorant. It continues to astound me how I could spend 58 years on this planet and remain so ridiculously naive. I don't visit the Jeopardy boards, I have actually only started watching it in recent months on a fairly regular basis for some reason. I RARELY even look at the BAM transcripts these days, except for the occasional "wonder what kinda questions they're asking these days?" The combination of not liking the answer to that inquiry and feeling that that particular ship sailed for me after two opportunities to book passage on it makes it a rare occasion. No, I'm still here after around 13 years because of the relationships built over those years. Don't have so much to contribute anymore...well, maybe I never did, but I made the attempt more often back in the day

...yet it's been an almost daily security blanket of sorts just to know it's here and check in. As I said, I rarely check the game threads, certainly don't check the political threads...dislike biased propaganda from EITHER side. I'll click on birthday notices, family news being shared and other items that catch my eye, but often it winds up being a drive-by. As a result, I obviously miss a lot. Even if I had seen the "cigar" term, and I can't even honestly tell you if I ever did or not, it wouldn't have registered as anything other than a congratulations. Without the background context...I would never even have known that the same type of congratulations had not been offered to male champions..and would never even have thought to wonder. All I knew about this guy was that he was a little TOO into game shows and that he was awfully stubborn about not putting RIP in his posted obits. So it was embarrassing to see how dense I was...Beast can confirm by my LS gameplay how I can sometimes miss something that's right in front of my face. Beyond the embarrassment, though, I am saddened that our little family could be violated like that...no, I am not comparing it to what our female winners have dealt with, but yes, if there IS anyone who thinks this hasn't affected you, we ALL have been violated. I suppose it's just naive me again, but I just never considered the possibility that THIS family could be vulnerable in THAT serious and potentially dangerous a manner, although had I ACTUALLY considered it, it wouldn't have taken much imagination.
So I again offer an apology for my ignorance. Not looking for absolution in any way...just hope that enough of the real me has come through over the years for you all to believe that, had I any idea what was really going on, I would not have been silent.
