This links to something I've never seen before. Mike Napoli hit one over the top of the Green Monster. And broke his bat on the swing. --Bob

I remember a check swing home run by the Angels against the Red Sox in maybe 1988 playoffs?

Yup, guy tried to stop his swing, but hit the ball anyway and over the fence it soared.

If it was the Angels, it would have been the 1986 playoffs. The Sox played the A's in 88...

I recall very well Miguel Cabrera hitting what essentially amounted to a check swing opposite field homer in Kansas City during the first week of the 2010 season that just snuck over the wall by the foul pole. While I was happy for the 6 points since I had Miggy on my fantasy team that year, the fact that it tied the game at 1-1 with 2 outs in the 9th also cost me a a 10 point win for starting pitcher Luke Hochevar, and gave my closer Jose Valverde a chance to blow a save in the 11th inning. 6 positive points turned into a net loss of about 20. Just one of those funny things that can make fantasy sports so frustrating, especially for my long suffering BBBL franchise...

Here's another play you don't see every day.

Phillies rookie Aaron Altherr hits inside-the-park grand slam

And it helped put us on the verge of a celebration. --Bob

The announcers were saying "Let's see how they score it..." How else would they score it?

Single and E8 (for letting the ball get past him). --Bob

Thanks. I really need to read up more on baseball scoring. I find it scandalous that that could be scored as anything other than a grand slam. If they got anything less than four runs, I'd feel like there'd be booing and bottles being thrown by the Phillies contingency.

I think you misunderstand. They're always getting all four runs. The issue is whether the batter is credited with an inside-the-park home run and 4 RBIs (resulting in 4 earned runs being charged to the pitcher) or a single and 1 or 2 RBIs, with the remaining runs being unearned and scoring as a result of the error. The issue is individual statistics, but the official scorer's decision doesn't affect the game outcome. --Bob

They sure do affect the outcome in fantasy baseball! I lost a BBBL game to RJS early this season two days after the period was completed due to a scoring change that gave one of my pitchers an extra hit allowed and 5 more earned runs...

Ah, gotcha. That's a lot easier to swallow.
