I didn't think that was possible

This links to something I've never seen before. Mike Napoli hit one over the top of the Green Monster. And broke his bat on the swing. --Bob

Yup, guy tried to stop his swing, but hit the ball anyway and over the fence it soared.
And it helped put us on the verge of a celebration. --Bobjarnon wrote:Here's another play you don't see every day.

The announcers were saying "Let's see how they score it..." How else would they score it?jarnon wrote:Here's another play you don't see every day.

Single and E8 (for letting the ball get past him). --BobK.P. wrote:The announcers were saying "Let's see how they score it..." How else would they score it?jarnon wrote:Here's another play you don't see every day.

Thanks. I really need to read up more on baseball scoring. I find it scandalous that that could be scored as anything other than a grand slam. If they got anything less than four runs, I'd feel like there'd be booing and bottles being thrown by the Phillies contingency.Bob78164 wrote:Single and E8 (for letting the ball get past him). --Bob
I think you misunderstand. They're always getting all four runs. The issue is whether the batter is credited with an inside-the-park home run and 4 RBIs (resulting in 4 earned runs being charged to the pitcher) or a single and 1 or 2 RBIs, with the remaining runs being unearned and scoring as a result of the error. The issue is individual statistics, but the official scorer's decision doesn't affect the game outcome. --BobK.P. wrote:Thanks. I really need to read up more on baseball scoring. Ah, gotcha. That's a lot easier to swallow.Bob78164 wrote:I think you misunderstand. They're always getting all four runs.
