I didn't realize this case had gotten to trial so fast.* I remember the arrest back in January.

Nutshell version: Woman (with young daughter) abducted by an Iowa couple, who tortured and prostituted her, killed her dog, dragged her across country. Alert trucker realized something was amiss about them and their RV at a truck stop, got the cops involved. The descriptions in the article were worse than I remembered it at the time of the arrest.
The guy and gal got 41 years 8 months and 40 years, respectively, in a Federal prison.

* The US District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia is known as the "rocket docket" for a reason.

The Eastern District of Texas is another forum that really moves things along. --Bob

Turns out the reason the case went so swiftly is because the couple pled guilty a couple of months ago. This was the sentencing hearing.
They basically copped a plea to get a lighter sentence. The suggested sentence from the prosecutor was 35 years on count one and 10 years on count two, served concurrently (i.e., each would get 35 years). The judge decided it was too light and went with the 40+ years.

We have no idea what happened to the two men who kidnapped and prostituted my granddaughter. They weren't prosecuted for her case so she was never notified. She wasn't tortured as the woman in the above case was but she has PTSD and still has trouble sleeping.

She was tortured by being prostituted, of course. Why weren't her captors prosecuted if they were identified to the law?

They were prosecuted for several other cases that involved Minneapolis residents. They didn't add her case because it would have required her to travel from Denver.

You should be able to find out their fate through the Minnesota court system, then. It would be good for her to know, one way or the other.

We don't even know their names.

Assuming there was a trial, it was a public record and was The State of Minnesota (or whatever the jurisdiction was) vs. xxxxx. How the f*** do you not know the names of someone who did this to your granddaughter?

At the risk of incurring the general ire of board pontificators, I'll tell that something like this happened to a friend of mine over 30 years ago. It was in the era of hard-wired telephones, which the creep who kidnapped 2 women, one my friend, managed nevertheless to inactivate when he wasn't there. Door was locked, building was in NYC on a high floor so escape via windows not possible. (I didn't ask or wasn't told how he disabled the fire escape, but I'm guessing he did.) My friend was able at some point to just rush out the door when it opened. The other woman was not. I don't remember the cops ever got involved at all. Friend probably couldn't locate where they had been after they got out & stopped running.
I hope I didn't say "so why did you go off with this person", but I probably did. Friend was a trusting person & needed "the place to sleep" that was offered.
I like to think, since they weren't actually tied up, that if it were me I could have figured some way to MacGyver the door. Probably not.

How do you suggest I determine from the many cases of forcing someone into prostitution which ones are for the guys who kidnapped my granddaughter? At the time I Googled the name of the hotel where they held the girls and found no hits. I have to assume the arrests never made the news.

No, you just have a comprehension problem. I said I couldn't determine who were the people who kidnapped Brittany because there were too many other cases. I was told the group had been written-up in the paper but couldn't determine which story of several was theirs.
