My firstborn is thanking Corn

Seems FBS was doing some Lavatory Maintenance at work yesterday involving a bleach solution (I think you already know where this is going...) Anyhoo, when he completed the assigned task, he poured the remaining solution into the toilet. Being a practical type (and not wanting to waste our precious natural resources) he decided to let gravity, the Coreolis effect, or whatever handle the flushing rather than force the issue hisownself.
It was at that exact moment that he felt a slight call of nature. And, being a practical type, he decided to take care of business on the spot rather than have to come back a few minutes later. As far as calls of nature go, it wasn't much at all. But when he saw bubbles start to rise from the target area, he immediately recalled a story his Dad related to him a couple of years back regarding a certain BB and her kitty.
Flushflushflushflush.
No harm done. And he was grateful for having heard the story (thanks, Corn!) But it added a whole new dimension to the old saying "I wouldn't go in there if I were you" (yes, he actually did say that to his friend upon emerging...)

And people think chemistry class is boring or not useful in their lives ...

Missed Corn's story first time around. Have to wonder how her kitty was involved, unless it was the same way ADs firstborn's snake was involved. Either way I probably don't want to know.

One day Corn's kitty took a leak on the basement floor; she decided that bleach would be helpful as part of the cleanup process. The ammonia in the urine mixed with the bleach and released chlorine gas - on a much larger scale than in my son's incident. IIRC, no casualties there either...

I am glad that your son remembered the story and didn't get hurt.

This must be why the bleach and ammonia are in the same damn aisle in my department. Not to mention the idiots at our warehouse who send the ammonia in on the same pallets as the bleach, and usually always wedge the cases of ammonia in the pre-wrapped pallets to where they leak....
I guess I have a good way to shut the store down if I ever want to go home one night, though.....

Now that you have posted on the bored, you would be the first person that they would blame.
