NASHVILLE, TN (WSMV) -
Metro Police report the shooter at the Carmike 8 Cinema is dead.
The Nashville Fire Department confirmed that shots were being fired at the Carmike 8 Cinemas on Bell Road at 1:55 p.m.
Police responded to a shots fired call about 1:15.
Dispatch confirmed three EMS units have been sent to the scene.
A spokesperson at Vanderbilt University Medical Center does not know if it will receive any patients.
Witnesses at a nearby business reported one person covered with blood.
The Ford Ice Center has been placed on lock down.
The Global Mall, which is next to the theater, has also been placed on lock down.
Last month a shooter opened fire a movie theater in Lafayette, LA.
The shooter killed two and injured eight before killing himself on July 23. Police said the 58-year-old gunman was armed with a handgun and acted alone.
In 2012, another man opened fire on a movie theater in Aurora, CO, killing 12 and injuring 70 more, in one of the largest mass shootings in U.S. history. The gunman, James Holmes, has been found guilty in the attack and is going through a sentencing trial to determine if he’ll receive the death penalty.

Gunman dead; three people somewhat injured, no transports to hospital for care.

The three who were injured were pepper-sprayed. I assume by the SWAT team.

Anybody besides me remember when everybody used to shoot up post offices? What's the deal with theaters lately? Did I miss the memo?
(Not being sarcastic here. Just curious.)

Copycat.
Not being sarcastic either. Spectacular crimes tend to generate wannabees.

I heard differently, that the assailant had a gun, an axe, and pepper spray.

Yep.
I heard that his gun was a pellet gun, which is less dangerous (except to himself when he aimed it at cops). So the gun laws were more effective in this case than with other mental patients.

Today, Mrs. SSS and I went to a Regal Theater, which, along with AMC are the two large theater chains in the Atlanta area. They had signs posted at the ticket booth and front door that bags and backpacks were going to be searched. When we got to the person who actually tore the tickets, she looked inside Mrs. SSS's purse with a flashlight (we had a bootleg drink in there that they didn't confiscate). When we left, around 7:00 and it was more crowded, they had a separate employee checking everyone's bag as they came it.
I guess Regal didn't get the memo from BiT and the NRA that the only way to stop shootings in theaters is to make sure as many law abiding citizens are in each auditorium packing heat. I'm not sure I'll ever feel safe going into a Regal theater again.

Did Aurora murderer buy a ticket?

Did Aurora murderer buy a ticket?
From Wikipedia:
The shooting occurred in theater 9 at the Century 16 multiplex (operated by Cinemark), located at the Town Center at Aurora shopping mall at 14300 E. Alameda Avenue. Police said Holmes bought a ticket, entered the theater, and sat in the front row. About 20 minutes into the film, he left the building through an emergency exit door, which he propped open with a plastic tablecloth holder. There were about 400 people inside the theater room. He then went to his car, which was parked near the exit door, changed into protective clothing, and retrieved his guns. About 30 minutes into the film, police say, around 12:30 am, he reentered the theater through the exit door.
Also from Wikipedia:
Houser, 59, went to the theater alone, bought a ticket ten minutes late into the movie, and sat for several minutes in the theater's second-to-last row. Including Houser, there were 25 people in the theater and 300 people in the building. Houser was armed with a Hi-Point .40-caliber handgun and equipped with two 10-round magazines. Shortly before 7:30 p.m., he stood up and started shooting indiscriminately, firing at least 13 rounds from the handgun and reloading once.
If the test is whether any anti-violence deterrent will stop every crime, then we won't have any deterrents at all.

I went to see Mission Impossible 5: Rogue Nation with my family last night. We sat in the last row.
Three different lone men (i.e. not with anybody) came in as the previews were starting and filled in different seats in the last and next-to-last rows.
Needless to say, I watched them like hawks for about a half hour into the movie until I figured they probably weren't gonna do anything...not that I had a real plan should any one of them have started anything, but I couldn't help but be suspicious.
