This one seems pretty straightforward. He's been indicted for securities fraud for failing to disclose to investors his receipt of commissions. The case was investigated by the Texas Rangers (no, not the baseball team). --Bob

It's been known for forever that Paxton was a crook, so this story is no real surprise. The people of Texas still elected the crook last November. Because, you know, it's Texas and he has an "R" after his name. It'll continue to be that way for at least another 10 years. But, given the state's recent population growth and shift in demographics, the scales will probably tip back to the Democratic Party within 25. (The Republicans in power know this; thus, explaining all of the draconian voting laws passed in the last 10 years. If the Republicans lose Texas's electoral votes, they're out of the White House permanently.)

Once Paxton gets frog-marched to the slammer, he will probably get replaced with another Republican crook... unless Gov. Abbott has a modicum of sense and nominates Calvinator for the post. Wishful thinking on my part...

We had a primary, and a funny thing, both candidates had an "R" by their name.

Oh, and Republicans, even Texas ones, are not alone in electing crooks. The difference is, typically Republican crooks resign or get run out of office. Democrats re-elect theirs.

I'm not so sure Governor Spitzer or Senator Vitter agree with that analysis. --Bob
