Democratic idiot of the day

There are some kinds of idiocy that make you laugh out loud. There are other kinds of idiocy that make you shake your head and say, in the words of Penn Jillette, "Whiskey Tango Foxtrot!" This one is the latter.

There is a man named John Kehoe. He is running for the open seat in New York's 19th congressional district. This is a district that was won narrowly by Barack Obama twice, but has been represented by Republican Chris Gibson. On his political aspirations, Kehoe told Roll Call... and you cannot make this _____ up:
"I would like to be the Drake or Justin Bieber of Congress."
First of all, Drake is not exactly a high bar to aim for. He's a Canadian soap opera actor masquerading as a rapper. He's only famous in the rap world because he's on Lil' Wayne's label. Second, aiming to be "the Justin Bieber of Congress" isn't somebody that anybody should be proud of, especially when Bieber's own approval rating in the U.S. is 10%, around the approval rating of the current U.S. Congress.

Wait... I just realized that Kehoe would be perfect as "the Justin Bieber of Congress". After all, if you really think about it, this Congress is the Justin Bieber of Congress.

Kehoe's own campaign announcement notes that he lives in Rochester, which is about three hours away from even the closest part of the 19th.

That's all you got? There's a lot more idiocy than that. But I guess it's a good start.

I disagree. I think it is brilliant. He is playing to his base. He will win.

This is bizarre to me, because I'm pretty sure I'm related to him. If it's who I think it is, he's something like a second cousin once removed. I met him when his family lived in Austin. Small world.

It sounds like he's the guy you met:
The author of Kehoe's website wrote:Kehoe’s experience with electoral politics includes being the elected delegate to the Travis County, TX (Austin metropolitan area) Democratic Convention in 2008, and being twice promoted, to the level of sole operating Senior Field Manager, for Grassroots Campaigns Inc.’s Southwest Region field office in Austin, TX in 2004, having trained and managed teams, planned and executed fundraising strategies including zip code mapping and donor targeting, and the collection of over $30,000 in funds, and hundreds of contacts for the Federal donor registry database for the Democratic National Committee to fund Federal candidates in the ‘04 General Election, almost entirely through grassroots, face-to-face donor relations efforts.
