I would count that among the least of Bikel's accomplishments.

And, another one of the dwindling number of Columbo villains passes on.

I really enjoyed him in Darker Than Amber, Rod Taylor's Travis McGee film. Although I though Taylor was miscast as McGee, Bikel was a perfect Meyer, as he was perfect in so many other roles. He was also quite an accomplished raconteur. Until quite recently he would periodically make appearances here in Atlanta just to talk about his life and his work over the years.

And who could forget his role as Worf's adoptive father on Star Trek: The Next Generation...

My first pegs for him are Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music, and Zoltan Karpathy in My Fair Lady.

He was amazing, one of those incredible talents where he becomes that character. When I'm watching Zoltan Karpathy, I can imagine hm only as the smarmy Hungarian, not Worf's dad, and when I'm watching Worf's dad, that's the only person he is, except when he's the crazy Russian captain in The Russians are Coming, The Russians are Coming, and then that's the only character he is. I'm glad he had such a long and illustrious career.
