PS I wonder how long until this movie stops getting shown? Frank and Ashley belonging to the Klan, which is way downplayed?

The first Klan was founded in 1865, after the war. Of course GWTW was fiction.

Yes- in both the book and the movie, Ashley's and Frank's Klan activities took place post-war.

(Of course, in the movie, the Klan was never mentioned. It was a "political meeting").

It was also something to move the narrative along. This was not a civil rights book. It was a family saga/romantic thingie. Jeez.

Nonetheless, there apparently is a move afoot to ban it- sales of the movie have been spiking lately because people are thinking it is going to be banned.

Anyhow, I trolled my own thread. Happy birthday, Ms. de Havilland!
