Time to shake one's head (don't read if at lunch)

Sometimes you just have to wonder about some people. The event in Charleston yesterday is an example; this is a local story that's just sad, twisted, and sick at the same time.

http://www.richmond.com/news/local/city ... e09c2.html

Short version: Woman was pulled over in the Hampton Roads area in early June driving on expired plates. Woman says it's her car (it's not registered in Virginia, it turns out), and the policeman notices something doesn't smell right.

Literally.

And the policeman opens the trunk, discovered a black trash bag with "the strong odor of rotting flesh."

The paper today reports that it's her son, who would turn 25 this month.

Except nobody's seen the kid since 2004. And he couldn't have been with her all of that time, because she was in prison from 2008-2012 or so.

Evil does indeed exist. I'm not sure how to deal with it.

An update on this case. Mother is now charged with second-degree murder; she had been held on charges of "concealment of a human body" (this is now dropped in favor of the higher charge).

The actual cause of death has yet to be determined, other than it is "inconsistent with a natural death."

Did they ask her if she had been in Zimbabwe lately?

Then there's this:
SALINAS, CA (KSBW/CNN) - Investigators say a woman found dead in her car at a California Walmart parking lot likely passed away months earlier.

Walmart employees found the body of Lauren Jessie Moss, 22, in her car Feb. 3 in Salinas.

She was last seen alive in November, shortly after leaving a drug rehab center.

Her sister said Moss left a suicide note, and a drug needle was found in the car.

Police said the Salinas Walmart’s security footage only went back to December of last year.

But that December footage showed Moss' car in the parking lot.

Walmart said it does not patrol the lot overnight.

Police also said the car had dark-tinted windows and a sunshade, making it hard to find someone inside.

So if the Charleston woman had just parked the car at Walmart and left it there .... she may have never been caught.
