Happy 100th Birthday, Les Paul

Today was the 100th birth anniversary of Les Paul. I've known about him most of my life, but the only time I actually saw him was the night before I won on WWTBAM, and I've always considered him my lucky muse who deserves a little of the credit for my win. Back in 2001, he was playing every Monday night with his combo at the Iridium Jazz Club in the basement of the Empire Hotel, where all contestants stayed. He was 86 at the time and had to relearn how to play the guitar after having a stroke, but he continued to play for several more years. Thanks, Les!

Forever in gratitude to this man, who made it possible for so many of us to rock out.
My next-door neighbors...probably a bit less grateful.

I just "discovered" The Iridium about a year and a half ago, thanks to a PBS series called "Front and Center." This show plays here about once a week and they've definitely expanded beyond just jazz performances. They are about 4 episodes into the 5th season.
You'd think they'd have taped a Les Paul show for airing at some point.
