Betsy Palmer dead at 88

Broadway World reports the actress and I've Got a Secret 50s-60s regular panelist died of natural causes on Friday at age 88. Three IGAS regular panelists have died in the last six months: Bess Myerson, Jayne Meadows, and Palmer.

Oh man, this one hits home. I was Betsy's driver from the Game Show Congress to the Burbank airport about ten years ago. She was super nice and posed for photos with everyone who asked. She told me to look her up if I'm ever in NYC. Her number was actually listed in the phone book. But the last time I saw her was when I dropped her off at her Jet Blue flight.

The problem, then, is that such calls do not address an opposition audience so much as they signal virtue. They talk past those who need convincing. They ignore actual facts and counterargument. And they are irreparably smug.

As usual, Zach takes a pretty solid career and reduces it down to some long-forgotten game show appearance.

I figured SSS' YouTube clip might be from 'Friday the 13th,' but it wasn't working when I posted this.

Aw, RIP. I remember her from game shows when I was a wee little one.
For some reason I assumed she was Arnold Palmer's wife!

She was known as a regular on I've Got a Secret now, it's not long forgotten.

Not by me! Betsy Palmer was my first celebrity crush when I was little. I watched I've Got a Secret regularly. I also got to see her in two touring shows -- The King and I and Peter Pan -- at the Mineola Playhouse.
