This may be the greatest television commercial ever made:

Or maybe I like dogs, and I'm easily moved on a Wednesday night. Anyway, I thought many of you would like it as much as I did.

Wow! I didn't see that coming.

ETA: I should've. I now see that the banner across the top of the embedded video says something to the effect of "Argentinian Foundation for Liver Transplantation"

Does anyone have any suggestions on how me and Biskitbreath can make this kind of switcheroo with LB?

Of course you don't have to be dead to be a liver donor.

Thanks, Dr. Obvious. I don't recall saying nor implying that was the case.

They totally lost their spot's message on me...all I could think of was how that woman had better take that poor dog home. Instead of "be an organ donor", I saw "if you don't plan ahead, your dog will be homeless".

In any case, the video broke my heart.

Loved it. I still miss my Sam (6YO) Golden Lab who died in a farm accident last summer every day. The ad reminded me of that Disney(?) movie with the dog in Scotland who visited owner's grave all the time-might need to get that one for the kids.

Made the mistake of opening up "Where the Red Fern Grows"-I usually only read the first few pages and the last few and I tear up.

I shared with some folks close to me and we all cried, in a good way, I think.

I love that we see the whole story from the point of view of the dog. I am choosing to believe the lady at the end does take the dog home with her, for reasons she cannot explain.

My imaginary ending is that she leaves the dog at the hospital, despite her immediate attraction to him. The dog follows her home, of course. Any dog who can follow an ambulance would have no problem following a car driving the speed limit. As the woman grows stronger, she spots the dog in her neighborhood and then in her yard. She starts leaving food outside for the dog. One day, she leaves an empty dish . . . and an open front door. The dog enters the house and the door shuts behind him. Fade out.

By coincidence and unrelated to the commercial, I have a monthly lunch with a group of eight to ten women, pet-owners all, who range in age from perhaps 40 to 80-plus. Last month, after a couple of women had close calls from accidents and illness, all of us expressed greater worry about the welfare of our animals than our own prospective mortality. We agreed unanimously to a pact to exchange home addresses and phone numbers of close relatives just in case any of us were taken from our homes by unexpected hospitalization or sudden death. The major point was to make sure that we could check on the animals as soon as possible, make sure they were not neglected, and if necessary, find new homes for them or take them home ourselves.

I don't have the slightest idea. May I ask why you think I need to justify whatever I write?

I wasn't asking you to justify it- I was just curious.

I thought a couple of us projected happy endings already. SC's is more fleshed out.

And I thought the happy ending the commercial provided was good enough, which is why I was curious to find out why people wanted to add more to it.

I couldn't figure out a way to ask that without possibly seeming overly critical, so I asked it as simply as I could and figured I'd explain myself afterwards.

I'm a "minimalist" when it comes to telling stories- I always try and find out what other people are when they tell stories.

So which way did Chuck Noland go?
