To not post something to acknowledge my 15th anniversary on this Bored....
I think this is my first gratuitous post in months. Who ever thought the day would come....?

That would make it my 15th anniversary, too, wouldn't it? I should think this would be the 15th anniversary for a number of superb folks.
This is a fine Bored, a brave Bored, a Bored to be remembered in legend.
But congratulations for putting up with all of us, beast.

Happy Anniversary!
The comic is great, especially how Buster has died three times already today . . .

Yeah, May is my official 15th anniversary (the date is uncertain). I actually found the Bored in February but only read the posts.

November 1999 is my anniversary date.
15.5 friggin' years ago- wow!
I made my first call into the phone game on a pay phone at the university where I was getting my MBA.
Pay phones pretty much have gone extinct since BAM first aired.

I joined a couple of days after I found I missed the Philadelphia auditions in 1999 or early 2000.

Your memory really is getting bad. Try April 2001 (The 2nd, I believe)...

I remember that one.
Maybe not quite as bad as this weather, but pretty bad...then it broke up when I got there.

Yes, it is. Now I remember I was in Philly from Oct. 2000 through June 2001.
I turn 65 in four weeks. I'm doing pretty good for my age. Look at the Sploofus rankings.

I guess he and I are brothers from another mother. I have basically been gone from here for 6 months or slightly more. This was a real absence as I very rarely (never)even checked in-as opposed to my other non-posting times when I lurked here. In some ways, I don't feel that I really fit into any of the cliques here-I never was in Chat and always feel that I don't understand half the inside baseball
Having said that-There is something special about this place. Obviously-without LB we would have died a long time ago. Someone once described it as the original Social Network.
I have looked for places that replicate this and there doesn't seem to be anything similar. I used to have a traditional Facebook account and now I creep Mrs. S-but that is nowhere near what we have here. You simply can't have in-depth book/movie/political discussions there with all those people from real life.
I recently started an account there under a pseudonym and I have the policy that I won't be friends with anyone there from real life. I am not sure how I will use it yet-but I kind of have the idea in the back of my mind that done right it could sort of replicate this.
The last real thread, before I went walk-about, involved the hunting thing and I am kind of proud of that thread(not because of what I wrote or did) but because we were able to delve pretty deeply into a topic over the course of several days. I keep having inclinations to reactivate that thread again as various things have come up.
The weakness of FB and other sites was just recently illustrated in an "African Geographic" post about the possible transfer of some endangered rhinos to Texas. There were a huge number of comments with about half of them saying (in some variation)-"Don't send them to Texas-The Texans will just shoot them." There is simply no way to cut through the clutter there and have a rational discussion that a "Texas Model" already exists for several endangered species of Sahara region antelope. Basically the only viable populations of these antelope are in Texas and , maybe New Mexico.
Now the Texas model may or may not be the right one for rhinos, however, you can never get a discussion of that going on FB. Oddly enough, I think we could there from here -I am Using the "Texas Model" as a stand-in for all the other deep discussion we have had here.
