WNCN wrote:RALEIGH, N.C. - A Wake County jury found Starbucks not liable in a lawsuit where a Raleigh police officer said he was severely burned when a cup of coffee spilled on his lap.
Lt. Matthew Kohr said the cup collapsed and spilled hot coffee on his lap and leg, aggravating his Crohn's disease.
Kohr said he needed surgery to remove part of his intestine due to the inflammation of the disease.
Friday, the attorneys representing Starbucks attacked Kohr's credibility in closing arguments.
The defense said Kohr had indicated to doctors his Crohn's disease was giving him problems before the January 2012 incident at the Starbucks on Peace Street.
On Monday, a jury said Kohr's injuries that led to his surgery were not the result of spilled hot coffee.
Kohr was suing for between $50,000 and $75,000, however Starbucks will not have to pay Kohr.
Kohr told the media that he appreciates the jury's help deciding this difficult matter and now just wants to move forward and put everything behind him.
