you are flipping channels while your daughter is at the kitchen table and not paying attention, having her head down doing something on her laptop. You stop on MGMfilms with an obscure scene of two men in fedoras on a street somewhere in Europe, with some orchestral music in the background. She lifts her head, looks at the TV and says "Hey, The Great Escape! Are you going to leave it there? They are about to die. This is the worst part!"

This is an actual conversation I heard in which the name of Steve McQueen came up.
Young person: Who is Steve McQueen?
Older person: He was the one who rode the motorcycle in The Great Escape.
Another young person: What is The Great Escape?

My oldest sons can recognize the news theme to "The Howard Beale Show" from Network. It's not exactly The Great Escape, but I'm not really into war films. I've watched Patton many times, but that's about it.
