Boston area J! winner's accent

#1 Post by ghostjmf » Fri Apr 24, 2015 1:47 pm

The guy took in my opinion way too much kidding from Trebek, who has never in my memory lit into anybody else's accent to that extent, & now he's getting grief from people saying he lost the accent in post-show interviews so most have been putting it on. In subsequent interviews he's said he got grief for it at college (local college too, the insensitives) so worked to lose it, but it still comes out under stress. Like while playing J!.

What struck me about his accent was that it was only noticeable for a small number of vowel sounds. So he could utter entire sentences that didn't give me a hint of Boston, then say "Authors for $x00" and I would hear it strongly on both syllables of "Authors".

The first time Alex pointed out his accent was when he responded, "What is Coz?" I hadn't figured out the answer, so I was wondering what the hell movie that was. When I remembered the category was Four-Letter Movie Titles, i figured out he was saying "Cars". It would have been a cinch to decipher if he had been talking like JFK or Boston Rob all along.

When he said "Cuba" I was expecting JFK's "Cuber".
