Off to Ole Miss

Heading there for a conference on the science and regulation of botanicals, with a special session as to why the New York Attorney General is full of crap. Well, that's what I call the session, anyway. Conference is from Monday through Thursday. Gotta put my analytical chemistry hat back on. Company's paying for the trip, first time I've been to a scientific conference on company money since all the way back to my first pharma job.
I forget, is anyone in the area of Ole Miss? Not sure how much free time I'll have, but wouldn't mind adding more BBs to my meet-and-greet list.

Hey gsbac, I hope you have a great time in God's country. Be sure and eat at City Grocery for dinner and Big Bad Breakfast for breakfast. The same chef owns them both and you will certainly be pleased. He is also the head chef of Manning's in New Orleans. I live 3 hours from Oxford but I am coming up the 24th thru the 26th for a fraternity reunion. If you happen to go into University Sporting Goods on The Square to get a souvenir, ask the owner Pat to give you a deal because you know The Mole Man. He and I were pledge brothers long ago. BTW- he is also the mayor in case you need any help with the local PD. If you ever enjoyed Faulkner, I think you would enjoy visiting Rowan Oak. I used to ride my motorcycle in the woods back behind it.

Meals are at the conference, including dinner. Even so, would probably take your advice, except that I am carless this trip. Will save it till next time.
Did get to see a bit of the campus today. They dedicated a new building as part of the National Center for Natural Products Research. Nice shiny new chemistry building. Almost makes me want to go back to grad school...
Nah.

Besides their numerous other projects and studies, the Center has the sole contract from NIDA (National Institute on Drug Abuse) to supply marijuana to researchers. Was chatting with one of the professors involved who is attending the conference. You would not believe the paperwork and government audits he has to go through. Makes me feel better about the FDA.

Glad to hear that. My youngest daughter will be studying Forensic Chemistry there this fall.

We used to ride by the marijuana growing facility every once and a while back in the day. Lots of plots were hatched over drinks at The Gin. (a bar built in an old cotton gin building) None were ever attempted.
