I just got this from the Jeopardy! Facebook feed:
As part of Alex Trebek’s contract renewal, he agreed to the addition of a “Vanna White”-type co-host. Sony is beginning auditions this week.
I hope this is an April Fool's Day prank.

And I guess they really had no way to redo the game unless they had another car around ready to be given away. --Bob

I have heard that Vanna White is on WoF as sort of a parody of game shows which had an attractive woman doing something completely unnecessary. This is from the Wikipedia article for WoF:

"Griffin chose White because he felt that she was capable of activating the puzzle board letters (which is the primary role of the Wheel hostess) better than anyone else who had auditioned."

There would be afraid of a potential uproar by the viewing public if they ever fired Vanna.

I remember that Vanna came into the contestant's room and did her best tomake us feel welcome and put us at ease. She seemed a very nice person. We didn't see Pat until he walked out onto the stage.
