Prior to this year, the State of Nebraska hosted tournament games in 1977, 1980, and 1988.

In 1977, Marquette came out of Omaha to win the national title.

In 1980, Louisville came out of Lincoln to win the national title.

In 1988, Kansas came out of Lincoln to win the national title. (Especially memorable for me because I had the chance to watch them play in both Lincoln and Kansas City.)

In 2008, Kansas won their 1st and 2nd round games played at the Qwest Center in Omaha.

If Kansas wins tonight, teams will be clamoring to come here the next time that the Qwest Center is picked (rumored to be in the running for a regional final slot).

But I bet those teams didn't have as punk-ass a coach as Bill Self. Let's hope they get creamed and that the Illini win a championship before he does.

That's why my husband was thrilled they mopped the floor with UNC, though--he will never forgive Roy Williams for running up the score against Penn. Some of these coaches really are just punks.

The rumor from all directions around here is that after the game, win or lose, Oklahoma State University will line up dump trucks full of money to try to buy him for the coaching job there. If he takes it, you will have some measure of revenge in knowing he will have to live in Stillwater.

From your lips to God's ears....

If Memphis wins tonight, I'll come in 2nd in one of the two pools I'm in, and win $125.

Naturally, I don't follow college basketball (or any basketball at all...it's one of the few sports I won't watch). And that ticks off many many people, since I've won this particular pool 2 out of the last 5 years, and this'll be just another reason for my brother to be p*ssed off...

I swear I hadn't read Tom's post before I posted....

And that's a phrase I almost never use....

Rock Chalk! Jayhawk!

I'm right again. :)

I'm so glad that they came back against the Memphis Gorillas (so many uncalled fouls) and the refs to take the title.
