A Senate race in a state that is becoming bluer in presidential election years. Expect fireworks in both party primaries and in the general.

I'm sure that the GOP would love to recruit popular governor Brian Sandoval for this race, but Sandoval himself wants nothing to do with the Senate. So they'll probably have to settle for any one of a dozen Republicans currently in office.

Reid already endorsed former state Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto, although she hasn't made an announcement yet. The Silver State's lone Democratic representative, Dina Titus, has already publicly expressed interest in the open seat.

As far as the Senate leadership is concerned, Dick Durbin would presumably become the new Democratic leader in 2017, as he has been the Democratic whip since 2005. Chuck Schumer has also been long considered as a successor. Assuming that she doesn't run for president in 2016, Elizabeth Warren could be eyeing either the leader or whip positions.
