Good Luck in the Big Easy. The Baboo and I were down there last Monday courtesy of Harrah's New Orleans and had a great time.

I had a quick meal there at Fuddrucker's when I arrived Thursday night. My arrival was delayed sufficiently that I needed to find an all-night food place. I'm staying a very easy walk away. --Bob

We were roughly average in the afternoon but had three nice wins in the evening. We finished with 109.49 victory points, good for fourth in the event.

Tomorrow we play Flight B of the North American Pairs, my last shot at this event. --Bob

4th in the premier under 10K event is a huge accomplishment well done. Wanted to be there just couldn't manage the time

I wasn't playing very well yesterday but we did manage to qualify. Depending on the outcome of an appeal, we're either toward the bottom of the remaining field or in the middle of the pack. --Bob

I'm curious: What does an appeal play look like in bridge? Not playing with a full deck?

Since certain bids may have a variety of meanings if a partnership failed to announce an unusual meaning for a normal call the director and or appeals committee can adjust the score. Since most tournament games use a comparison scoring method it can change everyone's score a small amount if they are not involved or the injured party a larger amount if they are if they are. Like golf strokes can be added if you break the rules scores can be reduced in the same way

Bob, if you are close enough to the casino to walk there, I will throw out a couple of places just on the other side of the casino that you might consider. The first is Mannings. It is a part of the Fulton Street entertainment district. Fulton St. is flanked on either side by the Harrah's hotel and the Harrah's parking garage and features a number of restaurants. (Ruths Chris, Gordon Birsch, Grand Isle) Mannings is owned by the First Family of Football and is a pretty cool spot. IF the weather is pretty, their patio is nice. If the weather is wet, there is a lot to see and do inside.

The other place I like is literally around the corner from Mannings. The name of it is Ernst. I am pretty sure that their kitchen stays open late into the night. The bar itself is 24/7. It is a favorite stopping place for Harrah's employees on their way to work or after they finish their shift.

Mannings is more upscale while Ernst is more of a funky locals place. Both are fun and totally safe.

Thanks. I've enjoyed my stay here but I didn't have much time to explore. My partner broke his ankle last weekend so he wasn't particularly mobile. I'm looking forward to my next opportunity to visit. --Bob

Wrapped up my tournament by playing more sloppy bridge this afternoon, followed by a better game this evening. The appeal was resolved against us, which I think was a bad call, but there's nothing more to be done about it. We finished 15th overall, good for another 12.00 master points.

Now it's off to New York to argue before the Appellate Division. --Bob
