Local contestant on J!

#1 Post by jarnon » Thu Mar 12, 2015 7:22 pm

Kristin Sausville of Newark, Del., not far from Philly, has been getting coverage in the local news. She won on Jeopardy! yesterday and today.

Kristin's husband Justin is a six-time winner and competed in the Tournament of Champions in 2011.

Yesterday, Kristin was in first place going into Final Jeopardy. All three players got it right (heck, even I knew the question), and Kristin came out on top.

Today, Kristin was the only player with a positive score at the end of Double Jeopardy (I've never seen that before). She played Final Jeopardy alone and got it wrong, but she's now a two-day champ.

I watched today's show. They had some hard categories (World Series MVPs, for example).

I got FJ right. It was about US government, which is one of my strong subjects.
I'm just a game show nerd.

I'm sure someone will be along soon to fill us in on how many times it's happened before...

A few weeks ago, they had someone from Douglassville on, which is about 5 or so miles down the road from me.

Hard is all a matter of knowledge base. The World Series category was for me, as I'm sure it would be for several others on this bored, a cakewalk.

I was also thinking that it must've happened a few times before, given its lengthy history, but I don't recall ever seeing it myself.

I actually recall a time or two when it happened way back in the day when I'd get to watch it regularly (I'm talking late 80's, early 90's). But I'm sure we'll get the official word from our game show encyclopaedia...

The only thing that game was missing was Sean Connery and Burt Reynolds.

And for those that have WoF after J!, there was only one contestant that had won any money before they gave to $1000 consolation prize to the other 2 contestants. Sort of the equivalent on WoF. Odd to happen back to back.

ISTR a second single player FJ in season one, one in season two and one in season three are also on the archive. Mark Barrett will remember another 80s husband and wife champ duo, Richard and Rani White on $ale, both on daytime, Rani winning $140K in 1988(Winner's Big MOney Game, the only $50K winner) and Richard $120K in 1986(Winner's Board)

Kristin won on March 17, with a 5-day total of $94,201. I hope to watch her in a future TOC.

How much did her husband win in his six days?

$136000 in six days, $10K more for being a TofC semifinalist. Kristin lost last night and left with $95201. Total winnings so far for the duo are $241,201. RIchard and Rani White from 80s $ale of the Century won about $20K more between them than the Sausvilles.

So, if Kristin does well in the TOC, they can surpass them, eh?

Kristin making the finals would make the Sausvilles surpass the Whites from $ale of the Century in game show winning husband and wives. That is, among contestants appearing separately. Nine couples appearing together on MIllion DOllar CHance of a Lifetime from Jan 1986-September 1987 won the top prize, which was $40K a year for 25 years in season one, and $100K in prizes or so plus a $900K annuity in season two. THe last of those annuities would have been paid out around 2010.
