I am a mean mother
Emma has been working on a project all weekend. She printed everything out and assembled it into a "flip book" in a very haphazard manner and it looked like crap.
I made her redo the whole thing so that it was neat. It took her two extra hours to do.

It was hers. The project counts for 1/3 of her grade. She put a lot of effort into the content, but she mounted her work in a totally haphazard manner with pages not being flush and staples being placed in an almost random manner.a1mamacat wrote:was this your project, or was this Emma's project?
She knew that she did a crappy job. She also knows that if her grades slide that she won't be able to partake in promotion activities at the end of the year.
I told her that she could turn it in, but that she would probably get a "D" on it and that she would have to deal with the consequences at school and at home. So she redid it.

I think there is a huge difference between a parent who does a project for her child and one who insists that the child perform up to her ability. I think you did the right thing. Heck, I think I wouldn't have even given her the choice of handing in the substandard work.
It is our choices that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities. —Albus Dumbledore

Did she "stomp" when told to re-do it? My dd tends to stomp in situations such as these. Then again, she takes after me in this case, and I've been stomping a lot longer and louder than she has.PlacentiaSoccerMom wrote:Emma has been working on a project all weekend. ps - Although it usually isn't literal stomping, occasionally she has even been known to do that. LOL!
