In the Land of Snow this got preempted by a speech from the gov about how in a month his new commission will tell him that the T didn't do so well in the snow. Except for the last Q. They rejoined the "show in progress" for that.

Q5: Only flower up there.

Q6: Coulda been Mao, but Fidel, strangely enough, is more likely to have made a funny. Go with it.

Q8: Grit teeth & do the arithmetic. Glad those 2L vats of diet soda also say 64+ something oz.

Q9: No freaking idea. Never heard terms. JTQ.

Q10: Eggplant is aubergine. Pretty sure courgette is squash, but don't know why am sure. Get +1 up, who I hope is just sure.

Time to dust off my seminary learning. Only Mark identifies Jesus as a carpenter; Matthew says he's the son of a carpenter. The Greek word used is "tekton" (the "o" is an omega), which can mean any sort of artisan - potter, metalsmith, carpenter, etc. It can also mean "builder". The tradition that Jesus (and Joseph) was a carpenter comes from Dialogue with Trypho, an apologetic work written by Justin Martyr in the 2nd century. There's also a reference to Jesus miraculously causing a board to grow after Joseph cut it too short, found in the Infancy Gospel of Thomas.

This comes up often in trivia contests. And Martin Van Buren was the first president to be born in the U.S.

Nicely done, although he probably didn't need to use his +1 - he already had the answer. But I guess he needed the confidence boost more than the lifeline.

Well, too bad he couldn't save the +1 for this, although I suspect he still would have walked away. Since I have all my lifelines, I jump this question.
