RIP Internet Explorer

At least whatever version of Internet Explorer I had on my computer that somehow started crashing every time I tried to start it (getting that Internet Explorer has stopped working and is trying to find out how we screwed up message). Rebooting the computer didn't help, nor did upgrading to the latest version of IE and turning it off and on using the control panel. So I finally disabled it and switched to Google Chrome.

I'll probably ask my daughter later if she's got any ideas what could be wrong but I'm not holding my breath.

This happened to me last night (Friday night). I got home, everyone was in bed, so I got on the computer. Someone left IE open and it had crashed and locked everything up. I closed it all using Task Manger, but like for you, every time I tried to open IE it crashed. I rebooted, like you. Same result. Norton kept giving me a "blocked attacked" notice, too. About every 10 seconds. I download Chrome, using Firefox, and was able to search for some things. But found nothing.

I had Norton run a full scan and went to bed. Norton reported finding nothing, but this morning IE is working fine.

So try IE today to see if it is working. Mine is, I'm using it now.

I hate it when something doesn't work for no reason, then for no reason it starts working again. :|

Same here. I ran the Norton quick scan, and I'm back to using IE.

Once is happenstance, twice is a coincidence, thrice is a conspiracy!

Nothing in the news at all about this.

I would run Malwarebytes on your systems to make sure you don't have something very bad.

Could it be we've found the only three people left in the world who use IE?

Only because my Netscape can't be upgraded. :)

I just had flashbacks to my college years!

That nifty animation is about the only thing I miss about the early days of the internet.... well, other than the Go interface and its cool astrology banner....

Well. success. I've now got Internet Explorer 11.

For now, however, I'm staying with Chrome as the default, at least for a few days to see how I like it. I actually installed it a year ago when I got Aereo because Aereo's programming features wouldn't work with IE but I only used it for Aereo at the time.

FYI, the first thing I did when I had the crash was to run a Malwarebytes scan. I do that any time something hinky happens on my computer.

I never thought I'd say this, but Thanks for the headsup, BiT.

Yeah, well, when I say "Duck!", you'd better follow that advice as well.

Also, I'm glad, relieved, but even puzzled by a few others reporting the same problems at the same time.

I think someone in Russia had a busy night.
