Lyrically Speaking - 2/11/15

Well, my old friend LB's getting real desperate for LS ideas now. He turned to his least favorite piece of furniture to present a Wacky Wednesday game with songs that peaked at #9 on the Billboard pop charts. I guess he can sympathize with them since he never made it past #9 either...

Since a Krox would be unfair, LB included a few extra songs. A few extra Fastest Finger questions would've been nicer....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Well, you're the real tough cookie
With the long history
Of breaking little hearts
Like the one in me

2. Once the world was new
Our bodies felt the morning dew
That greets the brand new day

3. You end up like a dog
That's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life
Just covering up

4. If things are the same
Then explain why your kiss is so cold

5. Then you played with
Older boys and prefects
What`s the attraction
In what they`re doing

6. And when theyre really wailing,
Michelle and Cass are sailin.
Hey! they really nail me to the wall.

7. She was the color of the Indian summer
And we shared the hours without number
Until one day when the sky turned dark
And the winds grew wild

8. Even though the pain and heartache
Seems to follow me wherever I go,
Though I try and try to hide my feelings,
They always seems to show,

9. It`s not that I wanna say goodbye
It`s just that every time you try
To tell me, me that you love me
Each and every single day
I know I`m going to have to
Eventually give you away

10. Don`t wannna discuss it
Think it`s time for a change
You may get disgusted
Start thinking that I`m strange

11. Well, pick you up at ten, gotta have you home at two
Mama don't know what I catched off of you
But that's all right 'cause we're looking as cool as can be

12. Is it any wonder I'm not a criminal
Is it any wonder I'm not in jail

13. She had a dream and boy, it was a good one
So she chased after her dream with much desire
But when she got too close to her expectations

14. First in my class there at MIT
Got skills, I'm a champion at D&D
MC Escher, that's my favorite MC
Keep your 40, I'll just have an Earl Grey tea

15. Took a walk down the street
Through the heat whispered trees
I thought I could hear
Hear, hear, hear

After reading of your self-proclaimed soft spot for baseball images, I was determined not to be seen as pandering to, and trying to take advantage of, that knowledge..not to mention you'll probably be just as determined in these last few days NOT to be swayed by baseball images. I was going to find an image of side 4 of the Beatles' White Album, which contains "Revolution 9", but I just can't ignore the greatest baseball player of all time, who played all 9 positions in a game, as documented in a film called "Baseball Bugs". So while it may cost me the win today, I must pay tribute to this mighty champion of the Diamond:

Well, my old friend LB's getting real desperate for LS ideas now. He turned to his least favorite piece of furniture to present a Wacky Wednesday game with songs that peaked at #9 on the Billboard pop charts. I guess he can sympathize with them since he never made it past #9 either...

Since a Krox would be unfair, LB included a few extra songs. A few extra Fastest Finger questions would've been nicer....

1 point for the title, 1 point for the artist...

1. Well, you're the real tough cookie
With the long history
Of breaking little hearts
Like the one in me

Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar

3. You end up like a dog
That's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life
Just covering up

Born in the U.S.A. - The Boss

9. It`s not that I wanna say goodbye
It`s just that every time you try
To tell me, me that you love me
Each and every single day
I know I`m going to have to
Eventually give you away

I'm Like a Bird - Nelly Furtado

10. Don`t wannna discuss it
Think it`s time for a change
You may get disgusted
Start thinking that I`m strange

Domino - Van Morrison

11. Well, pick you up at ten, gotta have you home at two
Mama don't know what I catched off of you
But that's all right 'cause we're looking as cool as can be

Rock This Town - Stray Cats

12. Is it any wonder I'm not a criminal
Is it any wonder I'm not in jail

Too Much Time on My Hands - Styx

15. Took a walk down the street
Through the heat whispered trees
I thought I could hear
Hear, hear, hear

Noisy Fucking Trees - Andrea Corr

How's this for pandering? You know what number is cut off on the left and who wore it for a few seasons.

Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benatar

2. Once the world was new
Our bodies felt the morning dew
That greets the brand new day
In Your Wildest Dreams - Moody Blues

3. You end up like a dog
That's been beat too much
Till you spend half your life
Just covering up
Born in the USA - Bruce Springsteen

4. If things are the same
Then explain why your kiss is so cold
Smoke From a Distant Fire - Sanford Townsend Band (I've always associated this song with the Enchantment Under the Sea Dance in Back to the Future for some reason... it just sounds like something Marvin Berry's band would have played...)

5. Then you played with
Older boys and prefects
What`s the attraction
In what they`re doing
Carrie Anne - Hollies (I always try to include this song for Hottie...)

6. And when theyre really wailing,
Michelle and Cass are sailin.
Hey! they really nail me to the wall.
I Dig Rock and Roll Music - Peter, Paul and Mary

7. She was the color of the Indian summer
And we shared the hours without number
Until one day when the sky turned dark
And the winds grew wild
Thunder Island - Jay Ferguson

8. Even though the pain and heartache
Seems to follow me wherever I go,
Though I try and try to hide my feelings,
They always seems to show,
Never Can Say Goodbye - Gloria Gaynor (Yes, the Jacksons version was OK for credit... but I keep forgetting they did it first. Gloria's #9 cover was better, and The Communards version was epic!)

9. It`s not that I wanna say goodbye
It`s just that every time you try
To tell me, me that you love me
Each and every single day
I know I`m going to have to
Eventually give you away
I'm Like A Bird - Nelly Furtado

Paper in Fire - John Cougar Mellencamp

14. First in my class there at MIT
Got skills, I'm a champion at D&D
MC Escher, that's my favorite MC
Keep your 40, I'll just have an Earl Grey tea
White and Nerdy - Weird Al Yankovic (I remember one of ESPN's Page 2 columnists opined that Weird Al had essentially declared hip hop to be dead upon releasing this song... because if a parody of the hottest rap song at the time is better than the original, then the whole genre must be in big trouble. It seems to have survived anyway...)

15. Took a walk down the street
Through the heat whispered trees
I thought I could hear
Hear, hear, hear
#9 Dream - John Lennon (No, this can't just be a coincidence...)

A lot of dandies that I had to give consideration to! Ironically, just about everything but the baseball images that some of you were scrambling for after two straight IBB's going to baseball themed pictures. Weasel using himself, melly using Pluto, a rather awkward and uncomfortable looking Supreme Court class photo... but this game's 5 points goes to frank for Norman Ninefingers! That was fucking hilarious!!!

It is ironic that it took you 23 games to win an IBB, since you and Jessie's answering style is what inspired the Image Bonus in the first place...

Sadly, it's been crunch time at work, so I haven't had as much time to devote to this one. But I hope you enjoy today's.

JJC Points:

Vandal gets 2 JJC points for seven ate nine...

Krox gets 2 JJC points for his funnies...

Beebs gets a supermax for Michael Vick's wiener (I wonder what Ed Gein could do with that?)...

Weasel gets 3 JJC points for kicking Seat 9's ass (I'd prefer using dynamite on it)....

frank gets 3 JJC points for Norman Ninefingers...

TBone gets 2 JJC points for thinking I don't know my TZ, and for the Bugs Bunny lineup (We parodied that one draft day in the BBBL when through 15 rounds, Sprots' team [being picked by Otto] had 14 pitchers and only Lew Ford among position players...)

elwood gets 2 JJC points for Weasel and Earl Grey...

melly gets 3 JJC points for PLUTO!!!!!

Esto gets a JJC point for #9 Maris. I was at the game where the Cardinals retired the number in honor of Enos Slaughter. Also, gotta love ol' Dal Maxvill in the background there. One of the few, and the most recent Major League player to hail from good ol' GC....

TBone 32+2
