RIP Dean Smith

He was the man you can credit for the collegiate version of the shot clock being implanted, given his occasional use of the four-corners offense. It was an effective coaching strategy, but it made for bad TV.

Dean Smith is from my hometown, and grew up in the church I attend. A couple of years ago when we demo'd the old church building we found where he had signed one of the rafters. Wonder whatever happened to that? I expect the demo company took it.

Coach Smith left each former lettermen a check for $200 to "enjoy a dinner out compliments of Dean Smith."
