Carla Fuentes
Briarwood, NY

Carla is wearing a green dress because green is the color of luck and she's going to need it. It's also the color of her eyes, which makes her happy. Her husband knew how much she liked green so he got her an emerald engagement ring instead of a diamond. And green is the color of money and she's hoping to take some home.

B - Japan
C - Australia
D - Belgium

Carla should know this because she loves everything chocolate.

A WWOQ with a wicked distractor that would have claimed me, too.

Given that nobody who hasn't been a Mormon missionary would be familiar with all the rules in their handbook, I figured, like the contestant, that their well-known strict and modest dress code was the reference here. Who knew that they were supposed to act like five-year-olds in sports league that "doesn't keep score"?

Does it matter, I wonder, if the missionaries are playing a private basketball game amongst themselves or is this is a rule that only applies to when they're out among the gentiles in their missionary community?

That second question was a very wicked WWOQ. How are you supposed to know this if (a) you don't happen to be Mormon or (b) know someone who is? I would have used JTQ and hoped the next question was in my wheelhouse.
I'm just a game show nerd.

Here's a quote that answers Marley's question:
Mormon Missionary Handbook wrote:Safety. Recreational activities should be safe. Never go swimming or take part in water sports. Avoid activities that may restrict your physical ability the rest of the week or cause injury. These activities include (but are not limited to) contact sports; winter sports; motorcycling; horseback riding; mountain or rock climbing; riding in private boats or airplanes; handling firearms, fireworks, or explosives of any kind; or similar activities.

If you play basketball, volleyball, or another sport, do not allow the situation to become intense or competitive. (For example, do not keep score.) The purpose of recreational activity is exercise that will help you meet the physical demands of your work. Competitive games easily lead to injury or fatigue, which interfere with the work. If you play basketball, play only half court.
I was fooled by the distractor too.

Interesting. Do you have a link to that handbook, jarnon? I bet that there are additional rules elsewhere in the handbook that, while not necessarily mentioning basketball, would prohibit them from appearing shirtless. In that case, the question would have two correct answers and Carla deserves another shot in front of the Hot Podium.

Here's a link: Missionary Handbook
I think Carla can mount an air-tight case for an appeal. First, we can look under the section for "Dress and Grooming". For Elders (i.e., male missionaries) it says:
Suits should be of a traditional business style in dark, conservative colors. Always wear a white shirt with a tie that is conservative in color, pattern, width, and length. If you are allowed to work without a jacket, wear dress slacks with a white shirt and tie.
Now, TPTB might argue that this dress code doesn't apply when playing (permitted) sports. Fine. That's reasonable. But look then under the section on "Temple Garments":
Endowed members should wear the garment both night and day, according to the instructions given in the endowment. You should not adjust the garment or wear it contrary to instructions in order to fit different styles of clothing, even when such clothing may be generally accepted. When two-piece garments are used, both pieces should always be worn.

You should not remove, either entirely or partially, the garment for activities that can reasonably be done with the garment worn properly under the clothing. Nor should you remove it to lounge around your quarters. When you must remove the garment, you should put it back on as soon as possible.
Since playing basketball certainly can "reasonably be done" with the garment worn (by choosing not to play shirtless), we must conclude that Mormon missionary basketball must be played shirts vs. shirts.

Invite Carla back!

I suspect the case isn't airtight. I believe that not all missionaries are "[e]ndowed members." --Bob

If they have to keep their clothes on, how would you know?

But the rule implies that shirts vs. skins might be acceptable, as long as the Mormons were the "shirts."

Since it's finally been used again, please clarify what WWOQ stands for. I'm sure it's something quite obvious, but I haven't figured it out. Thanks in advance.

I don't think it's obvious at all. It stands for Wicked Weed Out Question.

It was developed as a name for horrible questions about obscure subjects that you either know or you don't, and you most likely don't. You can usually count on one WWOQ per stack, usually in the first 10 questions.

Oof! This is definitely a WWOQ. Given that BYU, a Mormon university, plays basketball and they definitely keep score, I wouldn't have considered that as an answer. But "shirts vs. shirts" doesn't make sense either - I can't see a Mormon missionary playing basketball in a white shirt and tie. So although it's early, it's time to JTQ.
