TLAF Update

Cross-posted from EFB:

As many of you know, Mom moved into skilled nursing at the beginning of December. We cleaned out her "bachelor girl apartment" in assisted living in mid-December, when it became clear that she wasn't going back to it.

Her room is nice. She shares with another woman - they each have an armoire, comfy chairs, side tables and TV.

Mom likes to listen to the music stations on her TV (the cable set-up has Music Choice). She usually listens to Big Bands or Easy Listening as she goes to bed at night.

When I walked into her room late yesterday afternoon, the music was on. She was waking from a nap and we chatted for a bit.

Then, I noticed the music. Because one of my latest favorites came on.

Uptown Funk.

So, I told mom this was THE latest song and she needed to learn it. I took her arms and moved them back and forth so we could "dance." And we sang.

You don't believe me, just watch.

We laughed and then Fireball by Pitbull came on. So we "danced" again. And she learned new lyrics.

Not ALL the lyrics, of course. But, she did quite well on "babybabybabybabybaby" and "We're takin' it, we're takin' it, we're takin' it down."

So, my list of Things I'd Never Thought I'd See in 2015 (non-political) has its first entry:

My 97 YO mother singing along to Pitbull.

Now, mind you, I have NO idea why the new radio hits/dance music station was on to begin with.

As long as she doesn't remark that modern music is going to the dogs. --Bob

Nice story. Even though I don't know any of the music listed.

But I could never figure out how my Mom could answer Wheel clues about members of KISS when neither she nor her kids listened to them. Sometimes, you just absorb things from culture around you, if you're the absorbing type.

At any rate, I'm glad you guys can still dance & sing together. Some of that Big Band stuff ain't bad! (Seriously; but when I had a job driving around with what were to me then old folks, who always wanted to listen to to the "old folks" station, the only versions played of American Standards were the overly schmaltzy ones. Are they still doing that?)
