"Look, a squirrel!" -- The best dog toy ever.
BeBe, a.k.a. ninjadog, received a Christmas gift that is a stuffed tree trunk with three holes that open into a hollow center. Three small stuffed baby squirrels reside in the middle. With some diligence, a clever dog can manage to wiggle the little squeaky squirrels out of the tree trunk and play with them separately. They are exactly the right size to carry around, throw, cuddle or hide. Lizbit discovered that she also could poke "surprises" through the holes -- my socks, other small toys, chunks of dog biscuits, etc. -- for BeBe to find and dig out. Now, nobody can go past the tree trunk without stopping to examine the contents and either taking out or adding something else. This has provided untold hours of activity for both of them over the past week. So far, perhaps even more amazingly, neither dog has made any attempt to tear up or play tug-of-war with the tree trunk or its contents. Obviously, Santa Claws knows his dog toys!

You have such smart girls! I'm with Kay -- I can see Lizbit oh so industriously putting small items into the trunk.
