My newspaper's TV schedule says there is a 2 HOUR 5th Grader on tonight. Hmmm, 2 hours of stupidity-sounds exciting. I'll watch it to see if anybody manages to win the million. I doubt it. :P

The important question is, will Marley be watching it to let us know what happened?

First hour wasn't too bad. This was a "Real American Heroes" episode; the contestant was a police officer who saved an elderly woman from a burning building.
Spoiler
He walked away with $175K, when he didn't want to hazard a guess on the following $300K question
According to Greek myth, Prometheus stole what from the gods to give to mankind?
Jeff Foxworthy pointed out the irony, afte he locked in his decision. :|

The second contestant is a textbook example of the energy TPTB want to see, if a nerd expects to be cast on the show.

Sheesh.

Spoiler
Uh oh! He got tripped up by constitutional law.
According to the U.S. constitution, how many consecutive years can a person serve as president?
And TPTB consider that a 4th grade question???

Next up, a stay-at-home mom.

Holy cow!

I'll guess 10.

You'd be right, Sprots.

Everyone knew that in 4th grade, right?

Actually, I knew about it in the mid-90s (looooooong after 4th grade...), when I started trying to calculate how long Clinton had to stay in office so that Gore could serve two more full terms if Clinton got impeached. I mean, convicted. You know what I mean.

Stay-at-home mom walked away with $100K. She was out of cheats and didn't want to guess what country the painter, Mary Cassatt, was born in. (Her hunch was France.)

And that was a 4th Grade Art "Classroom Club" question, sent in by "Jake". All your 4th grade classmates know that, huh, Jake?

Good grief! She was born in Allegheny County, and I dint know it! There isn't a shrine...

Besides, she deserted when she was a kid. Not that she had anything to say about it, at seven years old.

Thank you.

Maddie's quiz bowl team raises money by buying theatre tickets at a group rate and selling them at face value.

So tonight we saw Phantom of the Opera. I have seen it three times, including one time with Robert Guillaume as the Phantom and I have to saw that this Phantom was my least-favorite. He was a big whiny baby and for the first time ever, I rooted for Raul to get the girl.

One interesting point from the second contestant's run; unlike J!, 5th Grader will not allow their contestants to be "more specific"; once they lock in an answer, they have to live with it.
Spoiler
It was a math question (and the contestant had said he was strong in math) which asked:
What is the range of the following numbers: 3, 4, 8, 7?
(I may not have all the numbers in that set right, but the important ones are.)
Spoiler
The contestant answered "3 to 8", but Jeff told him that he hadn't completed his work. The answer they were looking for was "5".

Nathan saved him on that one.
I also still wonder if the APs brief the contestants about the kids in the class before the show, since I suspect all these episodes with the new class were taped before any of them aired. So many contestants call on Nathan early on, even though he likes being saved for last, when he can help with the big money questions.
