WWTBAM Bored

Of the over three dozen shows I have TiVo season passes for, only "Jeopardy!" is being recorded this week. Nothing but repeats or preemptions until Sunday.

My Tivos are just as lonely. At least they can talk to one another. They also record shows in the middle of the night for their own amusement.

Easily the top week of 2014 for least things set up to record.

Besides dailies of Jeopardy!, Sale of the Century reruns on GSN and Live with Kelly & Michael all I have is The Real World on Tuesday and Undercover Boss airing another new one on Friday.

This is my week to finally finish The Honourable Woman and The Roosevelts before Sunday the 4th with lots of new things on.

Over the holidays, Mrs. SSS and I watched Peaky Blinders on Netflix. It's a BBC series with a fair amount of bad language, gory violence, and nudity... not HBO levels but more than typical basic cable. It's quite well done, although, as with any shows about lower class Brits, sometimes the accents can be a bit tough to pick up. There's two seasons with six hour long episodes each. It's a British version of Boardwalk Empire about about a lower middle class crime family in England around 1920, and it stars Cillian Murphy and Sam Neill (Tom Hardy appears in the second season). There will be a third season sometime in 2015.

I'm watching Joan of Arcadia on disk. Excellent show - it's fun to spot the guest actors who talk to Joan as the almighty:

Zachary Quinto - he was listed as Pretentious Filmmaker God, I think. He has a huge head. Excellent!
Brian Klugman - now occasionally on Bones (Jack Klugman's nephew)
Curtis Armstrong - Moonlighting and also otherwise known as Bugger
Allyce Beasley - also from Moonlighting
Kathryn Joosten is one of my favorite recurring avatars
Susan Sullivan - Greg's mom on Dharma and Greg

It has taken a dark turn early in season 2, and there is no season 3, so I hope it does not end in a pit of despair.

I also need to finish season 1 of Transparent on Amazon, but I'm nervous. I have four episodes left and everyone is in a pretty good place. This is only speculation and not a spoiler, but I guess it could spoil someone else's viewing and I can't get the spoiler tags to work … so stop reading if it might be a problem ...

I am concerned that one of the characters in the flashbacks is going to off himself, since he's not in the present-day story and his own storyline could go that way.

I remember enjoying JoA during its original run. In addition to introducing me to Amber Tamblyn, it was also the first time that I noticed Jason Ritter and Constance Zimmer in anything.

Curtis Armstrong = Booger, not Bugger, unless you're talking about a movie that is not "Revenge of the Nerds." Two VERY different things.

I liked Amber in Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, also. Jason Ritter is just killing it this season.

Not Greg's mom? I've never seen Castle. I was not as big a fan of Nathan Fillion as everyone else in Serenity. I know I am a horrible person. I liked others way more.

I only watched Firefly and Serenity after I had started watching Castle, so I'm horrible, too. Susan Sullivan plays Rick Castle's mom on that show. She and Molly Quinn, as his daughter, are both really good.

If you might be interested in a cop show that's not too serious, often funny and occasionally romantic, you might like this show. I've watched most of these with my mom. She'd never watched a cop show before, unless you count Monk, but she loves her Castle.

Yeah, I meant Firefly as well as Serenity but it is getting tired in here.

I did just watch an episode of Joan and I'd been wondering which avatar Russ Tamblyn played, and there he was: Dog-Walker God. Seen him a couple of times already.

He got his biggest fame in West Side Story, of course, but I watched Seven Brides for Seven Brothers a few years ago and saw one of his earlier big roles. He had very few lines, which was good, but my goodness, could he dance! Super-acrobatic.

I recorded those but gave up after the first two. I'm making up for it by getting Doris Kearns Goodwin's book.

I've liked Amber Tamblyn and Nathan Fillion since Amber (age 12) played Emily on General Hospital and Nathan (age 24) played Joey on One Life to Live. Those were my wife's favorite soap operas. Other actors played those roles, but Amber and Nathan were the most memorable.

MarleysSister and family have Netflix. While searching it for a decent movie to watch, I noticed it had House of Cards. I'd heard good things about it but had never seen it before. Deliciously nasty power politics!
