Well, nuts

Thanks for the vibeage, but the gig failed to materialize. I kind of guessed when I hadn't heard back during the expected time frame, and I just got an email verifying that they'd hired someone else.

I do have some irons out there, at least, with a person at one agency who deals with temp and contract accounting placements. She says my references have been great, and she's most impressed with a certain game show appearance I had. Now if it can result in some cash (and a foot in the door -- which, BTW, is how I ended up here), I'll be happy in the short term.

OTOH, I'm getting to the point where I don't think I'll miss this place. Sad to say, the company I worked for doesn't really exist anymore. Abysmal communications from the higher-ups (e.g., we were told the Monday before Thanksgiving that we were open on the Friday afterwards, and only told today that we are closed tomorrow but open Friday), the usual end-of-year bonuses were paid to the warehouses but not to those of us in Admin (even those that will remain -- where's Cousin Eddie when you need him?), and we're going to an office Christmas dinner after work that they only told us about last week. I'm going, but I may stay only as long as I can before I open my fat mouth.

Maybe I need to find some North Koreans to help me do some "consulting."

If I were going to a Christmas dinner at a company that was giving me the boot a week later, I would make sure I opened my fat mouth early and often to get as much free food into it as possible.

Thankfully, that's coming up soon. I got a call yesterday (12/26) for an interview with one of the adjacent counties.

BTW, the dinner proved to be interesting. Once the local higher ups were, well, "lubricated," the tongues started wagging about some dealings they've had with the west-coast folks. Definitely a culture clash. Sadly it sounds like the new folks approach is the bottom line, and safety and employee concerns are not important.
