I'm flying out to California to spend the holidays with MarleysSister and family. I haven't even left the house yet and already my schedule's been changed. Fog in Philadelphia has delayed my departure from Ithaca and because I had tight connections, they've been rebooked. I'm now connecting from Philly through Dallas to Sacramento*, instead of through Phoenix, with an arrival time that's five hours later.

At least there's enough layover at Philly and Dallas that both I and my bag should be able to make the connection.

*Sacramento is an extra hour's drive away from where I'm going, but the only airline service to Chico (United) got cancelled, effective earlier this month.

Hoping that the reschedule doesn't get rescheduled yet again...

Just to be nosy, did you find the delays out because you checked or because they actually called you?

Why-I've-got-to-get-a-device-already is that years ago, before portable internet was everywhere, they completely rebooked me without even telling me. No calls. And no obvious bad weather where I was; they blamed weather elsewhere. And when I finally did get on the internet, I found they had sent the message so late it would not have helped. This was one of those situations where arriving on time for the cancelled flight, then begging them did help me get out on some other airline's flight.

The new connections got me (and my luggage) to my destination without any further problems. Since it was midnight by the time I got my bag, I decided to spend the night at an airport hotel before proceeding on. MarleysBIL had to go to work in the morning.

And, yes, ghost, I did get a call and e-mail on my cell with the message that my departing flight was delayed. I realized that I'd never make my connecting flights with that delay, so I was in the process of powering up my PC to check on their status when a second e-mail arrived with the revised connections.

California is much wetter than it was last Christmas, but the plus side of that is everything looks nice and green instead of dry and brown. And they still need all the rain they can get to relieve their drought.

It would have been raining here had you kept your original connection after zero rain in November we have had showers a few days here
