If you are lurking....

I have medals from my father-in-laws service in the RAF during WW2. The ribbons and medals have been separated from each other. I tried to look up the combinations to put them back together properly but just got a lot of hits for places that want to buy them.

I would like to join them and put them in a shadow box that I recently bought. It would make a nice gift for Husband1111's birthday.

Any chance you could point me in the right direction?

I do have you email so if I don't see you surface here, I will check there.

I'm not FlyBrick, but a little searching of the RAF website found this PDF booklet with some wonderful images of British Armed Forces medals and ribbons, which should do the trick!

Did your FIL serve during the blitz or did he join up later in the war?

When you put together that shadow box, christie, do you have a photograph of your FIL in uniform that you could include? That should be a family heirloom you're making!

Actually, another year I had a picture of him with his whole unit matted and framed. This would be of a similar size and I would consider it a companion piece to be hung together.

FiL served as a fitness instructor in Africa and the Middle East.

MiL was evacuated from the Channel Islands (Guernsey).

They eventually met in Leeds at the end of the war.

I'm sure the surprise will mean much to your FIL.

I've found that events they might not have discussed much over the years - their war experiences - are important to WWII vets as their days draw to a close.

It is actually for Husband1111. His father died several years ago. That is why we now have the medals.

But Husband1111 will appreciate it. He likes these kinds of gifts more than golf shirts.
