An Austin Christmas display

I'd go out of my way to see this display. But probably not all the way to Austin.

After considerable googling, I've found mentions that his house is actually in either Round Rock or Cedar Park (both Austin suburbs), but the address is elusive. He does have a Facebook page, which says the display is not for the general public and is only turned on by appointment when friends come over. Or reporters, apparently.

My memory of this news report went back farther than I thought; it probably aired in 2000 or 2001. Anyway, this update was on KOBF news last night.SportsFan68 wrote:Sumguy in New Mexico was featured with a massive display onto which he added an item or two every year, and the news report about it noted that it was causing traffic jams in the neighborhood. The electric bill was also a significant expense for the homeowner, so the report did show his donation box as well, but not many people donated.
In other words, I don't blame this person for making the address hard to find.
Ms. 63's old neighborhood (a cul-de-sac) used to attract significant traffic due to a number of elaborate Christmas light displays. My favorite was probably the home owned by a couple in a mixed marriage. One went to USC and the other went to UCLA. The dominant theme was determined by the winner of the annual football game. --BobSportsFan68 wrote:My memory of this news report went back farther than I thought; it probably aired in 2000 or 2001. The Bugg lights became iconic in Albuquerque for the holidays. The displays have traveled all around the metro since they left the Bugg family home in 2001. But for the first time ever, they're in a whole different city this year.
The Bugg lights are now on display at the Harvey House Museum in Belen. The holiday displays started in 1971 when Norman Bugg would decorate the family's northeast Albuquerque home.
After 30 years, some neighbors started complaining about all the traffic of people driving through to see the lights, so the Buggs were forced to give it up.
The displays spent some time off of I-25 near Santa Fe, then a few years down at the Menaul School in Albuquerque. Now, they're in Belen.
"We miss it. We really do. We miss having conversations with people all over and the little kids...their expressions," Joyce Bugg said.
But Norman and Joyce Bugg say they're relieved that the figurines and displays have been preserved. You can see the Bugg lights at the Belen Harvey House Museum every night through December 31.
