I hate winter!!
It's only November and we already have snow on the ground. It's supposed to snow again tomorrow night and into Sunday and then it is going to be very cold-like mid-December. Blame the polar vortex. It's back.

Meteorologists are blaming Typhoon Nuri, which drifted from the coast of Japan to the Bering Sea and pushed the polar air down to Michigan.

That's what it was like where I grew up in North Jersey. You had SpringSummerFall and W--i--n--t--e--r.
Here in TN it's just the opposite. Real Winter starts in January and ends in Mid-February. Of course, we too are hit by the current cold snap and it's looking like a crappy week next week, but most likely by Thanksgiving it will be short-sleeve weather again.

It's pretty chilly here in southern California as well. I don't think it made it up to the 70s today.jaybee wrote:That's what it was like where I grew up in North Jersey. You had SpringSummerFall and W--i--n--t--e--r.

Couldn't agree more. Hoekstra's told me on Monday that our snowblower (which had been given to us by a moving-away neighbor) wasn't worth fixing. And now this.Kazoo65 wrote:It's only November and we already have snow on the ground. I think I had this conversation at least a dozen times last year:
"So you're new to Kalamazoo?"
"Yep"
"I swear - winter's not usually like THIS"
I'm beginning to have my doubts.

My feet, in winter boots, are frozen. I can thank the diabetes for that, I guess. And it having been 55 yesterday but 35 today. My feet were frozen in regular shoes at 55, though, so I can still blame the diabetes.

It's going to be just 73° here today.

47F here, about right for mid November.
It was foggy at my house today, a rare occurrence here in the sunny Southwest. We live about a quarter mile from the river, and as soon as we got a half mile away, no fog. Then it had all completely burned off by the time we got home.
So far, we're having typical seasonal weather, typical, that is, for three decades ago before the U.S. and China started wreaking havoc and causing massive climate change. Deniers will point to Colorado weather and say, "Climate change is a fraud!" but other locations can point to the extreme weather in those areas and know we're on track for an end to life as we know it in island and coastal areas.

Vinny Gambini: Does that freight train come through here at 5:00 A.M. every morning?
Hotel Clerk: No, sir, it's very unusual.
Vinny Gambini: [the next day, after Vinny was awakened by the train] Yesterday you told me that freight train hardly ever comes through here at 5:00 A.M. in the morning.
Hotel Clerk: I know. She's supposed to come through at ten after 4:00.

Re: I hate winter!!
Remember that Arctic air mass that brought the snow last week? Apparently it hasn't left yet, and according to my TV station's website, we're under a winter storm watch (ugh!) from tomorrow afternoon until Tuesday evening. It said the watch is likely to get upgraded to a warning as the storm system gets closer. I bet the kids get their first snow day on Tuesday-which is the day I'm supposed to start tutoring kindergartners again.

I like winter! I think it's pretty. We have about three or four inches of pretty today. My very favorite season is every single one.
Bebe hates winter, though. She has gone outside only a couple of times today. She runs around the yard about a billion miles an hour, so fast that her toes never touch the ground, then skids to a stop to do her dog bidness and melt a tiny bit of the snow. Then she races straight back inside. Sometimes it's hard to believe we're sisters!

We are supposed to get down to 19 tonight. Luckily no precip. I know for some people, 19 is a brisk fall day. Down here, that seems like North Pole cold.

Yep. KPS closed. R's preschool, closed. WMU (and thus, Mrs Fly's work, which follows their schedule) closed.Kazoo65 wrote:Remember that Arctic air mass that brought the snow last week? I hope things are cleared up in time for bowling tonight.
Which kindergartners do you get?

I usually get the kids that need some help figuring out how to read. I listen to them reading a story and help them with the big words-yes, there are a few bigger words in kindergarten books these days-as you will be finding out.
My street hasn't been plowed yet, and trivia got cancelled for tonight. I'll be watching Arthur Chu chew up the competition on J! tonight. That should be interesting.

I'm fed up with our two days of winter because I have to wear closed-toe shoes and socks and that sucks royally. It's communist and shouldn't be allowed.
Well, then

Winter-round two:
We're under a winter weather advisory for 2-5 inches of snow starting tonight and going through Friday morning at 7 am. The weatherman on TV said it might be upgraded to a winter storm warning.
This weekend it's supposed to rain with temps in the 40s. That means we'll get a big pile of slush-sorta like mid-February. I haven't heard what we're going to get for Thanksgiving yet.
It's gonna be a LONG winter.
