Mattress scams

Has anyone purchased a new mattress lately? I found out that my 4 yr old mattress was still under warranty and got a refund for it bowing in the middle. Previously my mattresses have lasted 15 or more. I went to Macy's to buy a new mattress and the new one came with a non-fantastic odor and hard as a rock. So I am getting another mattress. I was told it takes 6 weeks to break in a mattress and get rid of the smell. YUK. Is this only in the Big D?

Perhaps. I've never heard of that problem. Is this a cheap one? Anything expensive shouldn't smell or need breaking-in.

I was thinking something similar. That sounds like a [commissioned] salesperson who doesn't want to provide customer service after the sale.

It's too bad this didn't happen in Michigan. The Michigan Bar Association would be all over this case like non-fantastic odor on a hard mattress.

A new replacement is coming this Friday. I may need to put the MBA on stand by.

Vandal,
How did you know exactly the type of mattress I got?

Ms. Geoffil, on behalf of everyone here at Macy's, I am truly sorry that you didn't find one of our fine, high quality products to be to your liking. If you like, we will cheerfully exchange your mattress for a different one that smells more like dried urine, or we will happily refund your money
(minus the sales tax, salesperson's commission, my own personal appearance fee on this Bored, and if there's still any money left, a cut for our store Christmas party when we hand out all the pink slips to our seasonal workers).
Thank you for shopping at the Dallas Macy's, and we hope to see y'all back very soon!
