Even without knowing a bit of Gaelic, I think one can safely rule out one-eighth of the population owning castles or wholesaling bagpipes. Could that many still be shepherds, in a first-world country? A lot less likely than being redheads!



Incidentally, Ceann is the name of a band I heard, a few years ago (before their lead singer died in a car crash). I've used a song or two of theirs in my LS answers.

Ceann is pronounced "Key-ANN". It means head. The original name was Ceann na Caca, which is Gaelic for “Head of Poop.” It wasn’t supposed to be funny or clever. Ceann was only going to play one show to parody The Pogues’ original name, Pogue Mahone, which means "kiss my ass". They realized that some people became hesitant to book them because of the name, so they shortened it to Ceann.

Mr. Marley, thank you so much for this! Me and BeBe can't wait to tell our brother Rusty to "Pogue mahone, ceann na caca." He is a ceann ruadh, too. That's how he got his name. Then we will laff and laff. He won't even know we're teasing him, because he's not as interested in other languages as us girls. He will just look at us with that imperious big brother thing he's got going on.

I think they're referring to those twist-off bottle tops, where you use the shirt fabric to protect your hand.
