Cardinal Fans Chant ‘Africa!’ and ‘Let’s Go Darren’ at Michael Brown Protesters

Following last night's playoff win over the Los Angeles Dodgers, St. Louis Cardinals supporters, known around the league as the Best Fans in Baseball™, encountered a "Justice for Mike Brown" protest outside of Busch Stadium, for the teenager killed by a police officer in nearby Ferguson. As the young, mostly black demonstrators chanted and waved signs, the very white baseball contingent took it upon themselves to counter with a "Let's go Cardinals!" chant that quickly became a "Let's go Darren!" chant — as in Wilson, who has still not been arrested or charged — and devolved from there into a hideous display of flat-out public racism, screamed proudly into a camera.

How many of the fans were actually making racist comments at the protesters? The article tried to imply that the entire crowd of over 47,000 was out there doing it en masse.

In recent years a lot of hate has developed around the country for the Cardinals and their fans, and this article was trying to fan the flames. That is what being in the playoffs every year will do.

So if STL wins it all, can they still light up a victory cigar?

I'm a Cardinals fan. Does that mean I'm a racist?

I'm pretty conservative, too, on fiscal matters at least, so that's pretty much proof.

Let's see, I want to draw national sympathy for my cause. How shall I do it? I know, I'll bring a handful of people to a sporting event where alcohol is not only served but broadly encouraged, be as provocative as I can trying to disrupt people's enjoyment of said event, then edit the worst 4 or 5 responses into a very flammable video and post it on the internet with appropriately slanted and inflammatory verbiage. That's sure to win all kinds of devotees to my cause, right?

It's kind of like posting the most slanted and inflammatory talking points from incredibly slanted political sites on a community message board, then being shocked and appalled when everyone doesn't immediately accept them as gospel.

By the way, they also pulled this stunt at an orchestral concert. For some reason, that one's not pulling as much traction with national media.

Little different response here.

Actually I've seen far more coverage of the symphony protest.
