Maureen O'Hara has been given a lifetime achievement (honorary Oscar) award by the MPAA, while actor/singer/activist Harry Belafonte will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award (last year won by Angelina Jolie). O'Hara. who just turned 94, has never received an Oscar nomination, although she frequently co-starred with John Wayne in some of his more popular pictures and starred in longtime Christmas staple, Miracle on 34th Street.

Also receiving awards will be French screenwriter Jean-Claude Carriere and Japanese animator Hayao Miyazaki, who is still an active filmmaker, having received an Oscar nomination last year for Best Animated Feature for The Wind Rises.

As in recent years, the Awards will not be presented as part of the regular Oscar ceremony so that they will have enough time to do every stupid song-and-dance routine they can think of. Instead, the recipients will receive their awards this fall at a special dinner in their honor.
