August LS Day 20 Pandora Friday
For the grand finale of this edition of Lyrically Speaking, I decided to go with not one, two, three, or even four seeds, but five! Count them! Five different channels! Still 25 songs, which means five from each channel. The seeds for the channels are, in no particular order, Irish music, Elvis, Broadway, Billy Joel, and a stock Pandora channel called Oldies Party Radio. Since the Irish music is usually done by multiple groups, I’ll count the title there for two points. For the Broadway songs, I don’t expect an artist (although you’re certainly welcome to share if you know it) but the show the song came from will be sufficient for the artist point. Also, one of the songs that played on the Broadway channel is not from a Broadway show (at least, not yet!) I will make it a little easier on you by keeping the songs from each channel together in groups of five, but I won’t identify the channels for each group. It should be fairly obvious for most of them, anyway. Good luck, and when this one’s done and scored (which, at the rate I do things, could be well into November), it’ll be time to build the excitement for the Winter Extravaganza!
1. Tell him to make me a cambric shirt
Parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme
Without no seam nor needlework
Then he'll be a true love of mine
2. A clouded dream on an earthly night
Hangs upon the crescent moon
A voiceless song in an ageless light
Sings at the coming dawn
3. Oh, the summertime is coming
And the trees are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather
4. From Bantry Bay into Derry Quay
From Galway to Dublin Town
No maid I've seen like the fair colleen
5. The dance of the leaves when the autumn winds blow
Ne'er do I sleep thoughout all the cold winter long
I am the force that in springtime will grow
6. People asking questions lost in confusion,
Well I tell them there's no problem,
Only solutions,
Well they shake their heads and they look at me as if I've lost my mind,
7. Come to me now and rest your head for just five minutes, everything is good.
Such a cozy room, the windows are illuminated by the
Sunshine through them, fiery gems for you, only for you.
8. She broke down and let me in
Made me see where I've been
Been down one time
Been down two times
9. Go down, Miss Moses, there's nothin' you can say
It's just ol' Luke and Luke's waitin' on the Judgment Day
"Well, Luke, my friend, what about young Anna Lee?"
He said, "Do me a favor, son, won't you stay and keep Anna Lee company?"
10. Paint your smile on your lips
Blood red nails on your fingertips
A school boy's dream, you act so shy
Your very first kiss was your first kiss goodbye
11. If you don't get loose, if you don't groove
Well, your motor won't make it and your motor won't move
Bow-legged woman doing the boogaloo
She got a jive, she got a move
Turn around, do it again
12. Well I know, you know better
Everything I say
Meet me in the country for a day
We'll be happy
And we'll dance
13. Ooh, ooh, ooh,
I feel my temperature rising
Help me, I'm flaming
I must be a hundred and nine
14. If the sky that we look upon
Should tumble and fall
Or the mountains should crumble to the sea
I won't cry, I won't cry
15. With a love, oh, so true
And the hand that I can hold
To feel you near as I grow old
'Cause I want (yeah-yeah, yeah)
A girl (yeah-yeah, yeah)
16. Another day, another destiny.
This never-ending road to Calvary;
These men who seem to know my crime
Will surely come a second time.
17. Should I bring him down? Should I scream and shout?
Should I speak of love - let my feelings out?
I never thought I'd come to this - what's it all about?
18. Too late for second-guessing
Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts
Close my eyes and leap!
19. Now’s your moment
Floating in a blue lagoon
Boy, you better do it soon
No time will be better
She don't say a word
And she won’t say a word
20. The window is open, so's that door
I didn't know they did that anymore
Who knew we owned eight thousand salad plates?
For years I've roamed these empty halls
Why have a ballroom with no balls?
21. I cried a tear for nobody but you
I'll be a lonely one
If you should say we're through
Well if you want to make me cry
22. Bing, bang
I saw the whole gang
Dancin' on my living room rug... yeah...
Flip flop
They was doin' the bop
All the teens had the dancin' bug.
23. Every little swallow, every chick-a-dee
Every little bird in the tall oak tree
The wise old owl, the big black crow
Flappin' their wings singing go bird go
24. (Why don't you come out, come out)
With your red dress on
(Come out) Mmm. you look so fine
(Come out) Move it nice and easy
25. Where the jockey is the smoothest
And the music is the coolest
I want to thank everyone for playing this month – I’ve really enjoyed reading your answers and playing along. To have over 20 people actively playing at this stage in the Bored’s life is tremendous. I hope we can continue the momentum.
I also wanted to find some way to pay tribute to one of the inspirations for this game. I tried to work it into a theme game or something, but for some reason, “rubbersnail“ just didn’t fit any themes I could come up with. I thought fondly of him while composing this game, and while reading many of your answers. I wonder how he would have answered the song challenge games. He and I had some important things in common, and I miss his contributions to this community. Hope he’s in a place where good live music plays every night.
