August Lyrically Speaking Day 18 Road Mix Wednesday. Last of the Road Mixes, just as mixed and weird as the other three. Fifteen songs for you to try to decipher, and you get one point for title, one point for artist. There is at least one artist duplicate on this day’s game, but that’s TBone’s responsibility. I’ll explain when I post the answers.

1. we danced through the night
And we held each other tight
And before too long I fell in love with her
Now I'll never dance with another

2. I never give you my pillow
I only send you my invitations
And in the middle of the celebrations
I break down

3. Kiss the day goodbye
And point me t'ward tomorrow.
We did what we had to do.
Won't forget, can't regret

4. You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish, although I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi
'cause it's never touched a frying pan
Hot like wasabe when I bust rhymes

5. When I'm losing control
Will you turn me away
Or touch me deep inside
And when all this gets old
Will it still feel the same

6. We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down.
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.
We filled his head with cannon balls, and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind.

7. Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad
From a worn-out picture that my mother'd had,
And I knew that scar on his cheek and his evil eye.

8. By the time we got into Tulsa Town,
We had eighty-five trucks in all.
But they's a roadblock up on the cloverleaf,
And them bears was wall-to-wall.

9. He held her tight and kissed her lips
In front of the picture show
Stranger came and pulled a gun
Grabbed her by the arm said "If you do what I tell you to, there won't be any harm"

10. I hold it up and show my buddies,
Like we ain't scared and our boots ain't muddy, and they all laugh,
Like there's something funny bout' the way I talk,
When I say: "Mama sends her best y'all."

11. I know every engineer on every train
All of their children, and all of their names
And every handout in every town
And every lock that ain't locked
When no one's around.

12. Just when it can't get worse, I've had a shit day (NO!)
Have you had a shit day? (NO!), we've had a shit day (NO!)
I think that life's too short for this, I want back my ignorance and bliss

13. Maybe it's hard
When you feel like you're broken and scarred
Nothing feels right
But when you're with me
I'll make you believe
That I've got the key

14. You can build a mansion but you just can't live in
You're the fastest runner but you're not allowed to win
Some break the rules and live to count the cost
The insecurity is the thing that won't get lost

15. And I ask you, friend, what's a fella to do
'Cause her hair was black and her eyes were blue
And I knew right then I'd be takin' a whirl
'Round the Salthill Prom

I'll make you believe
That I've got the key

You're the fastest runner but you're not allowed to win
Some break the rules and live to count the cost

August Lyrically Speaking Day 18 Road Mix Wednesday. Last of the Road Mixes, just as mixed and weird as the other three. Fifteen songs for you to try to decipher, and you get one point for title, one point for artist. There is at least one artist duplicate on this day’s game, but that’s TBone’s responsibility. I’ll explain when I post the answers.

1. we danced through the night
And we held each other tight
And before too long I fell in love with her
Now I'll never dance with another

I Saw Her Standing There - Beatles

2. I never give you my pillow
I only send you my invitations
And in the middle of the celebrations
I break down

Carry That Weight - Beatles

3. Kiss the day goodbye
And point me t'ward tomorrow.
We did what we had to do.
Won't forget, can't regret

Nope

4. You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
I summon fish to the dish, although I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi
'cause it's never touched a frying pan
Hot like wasabi when I bust rhymes

One Week - BNL

5. When I'm losing control
Will you turn me away
Or touch me deep inside
And when all this gets old
Will it still feel the same

Love Is a Battlefield - Pat Benatar

6. We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down.
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.
We filled his head with cannon balls, and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind.

Nope

7. Well, I knew that snake was my own sweet dad

I've got three covers of Galway Girl in my music collection, but The Fenians never recorded a cover of that one.

Be sure not to give me an extra point for that!

In front of the picture show

Actually, if he was your dad's cousin, then he would be your first cousin once removed. That gentleman's kids are your second cousins

1. I Saw Her Standing There -- The Beatles
2. Carry That Weight -- The Beatles (Tbone is the one who got me listening to the Beatles again. So much of their catalog is great for Road music for a person like me, who likes to sing along. I didn't put this song on here to trick anyone -- it was just the second song on the CD I happened to pull. But then TBone-- of all people! -- is the one who falls into the trap.)
3. What I Did for Love -- from A Chorus Line. As Frank pointed out, Priscilla Lopez sang the song in the original Broadway cast.
4. One Week -- Barenaked Ladies
5. Love is a Battlefield -- Pat Benatar
6. The Battle of New Orleans -- Johnny Horton
7. A Boy Named Sue -- Johnny Cash, from the Shel Silverstein poem
8. Convoy -- C.W. McCall
9. Don’t Take the Girl -- Tim McGraw
10. Letters from Home -- John Michael Montgomery
11. King of the Road -- Roger Miller
12. Blow Me (One Last Kiss) -- Pink
13. Moves Like Jagger -- Maroon 5
14. No one is to Blame -- Howard Jones
15. The Galway Girl -- Steve Earle, but lots of others, too.

Hotseat -- 7
esto -- 20
AD -- 14
elwood --15
Marley -- 9
TBone -- 23
Sprots -- 12 (Funny comment on the Beatles -- I never think of that song as sad, even though the key and the lyrics are that way. Just like singing it.)
Fireball -- 14
krox -- 17
jarnon -- 11
Shameless -- 12
lb13 -- 10
Frank -- 18
Vandal -- 12
TLITF -- 26
