Now packed with so many new gimmicks that the actual game may be an afterthought (if there's any time left over to actually play it).

Shit. And I thought last week was Shark Week.

WPVI, 6abc in Philly, ran ads to announce that WWTBAM was moving from 12:30 PM to 2PM to allow for the noon news to be permanently a one-hour broadcast. Noon news was 1/2 hour but sometimes it spilled into WWTBAM. It is being followed by "Daytime Jeopardy" at 2:30. Hopefully the "Daytime" indicates it is just a 2nd timeslot (rebroadcast of prior year show) and not the moving of J! from 7PM to that slot as it would be a major bummer to lose J! during the prime access hour.
I wonder if the Transcript Team will continue, as we dropped to fewer than five members last year and interest in the show has diminished greatly with those changes. I was transcribing two days last year and this season I will be away during the first two weeks of programming.
Edit to add: There is another site that transcribes all the shows that they can, although they abbreviate and paraphrase the questions a lot.

I looked this up, and it's being done in several cities because
Katie was cancelled. The afternoon
Jeopardy! shows will be "second runs," like the
Millionaire shows that 6ABC broadcasts in the middle of the night.
I hope the Transcript Team lives on. I enjoy the transcripts and the discussions that follow.

That's a good question, which we should ask in its own thread. I know that I ran out of enthusiasm for transcribing in late April-early May and I
still have episodes on my DVR waiting to be transcribed. Futilely waiting, like I've been waiting for a shot on the show...
I'd like to think I'll regain some enthusiasm with the new season, but there's absolutely nothing in this press release that gives that to me.

The show features contestants from all over the country and all walks of life, and remains a game in which anyone can win big.
Three lies in a single sentence. Pretty good.

I was more bothered by this sentence:
As America’s richest game show, “Millionaire” continues to be the only show to offer a $1 million prize to each and every contestant.
They really have to stretch the truth to call WWTBAM "America's richest game show." Certainly a top player can aspire to win more money on Jeopardy! than on WWTBAM. They appear to be saying that some Jeopardy! contestants can not win $1 million, which is true only for the Kids Week and Teen Tournament players.

I wonder if they even bother writing $1M questions anymore.

And yet Jeopardy has gone thirty years without a rule change that's affected game play.

Speaking of which, I just saw Henry Winkler on TV as a spokesman for reverse mortgages.

Where's the "Rec" button?

It seems to be just more cost cutting. Giving away $1,000 at a time in a segment is easier than giving away five or six figures, plus the side games may be more entertaining...

If each of the side games takes 5 minutes, and there's about 10 minutes of commercials, that's...what...5 minutes of actual game play?
That press release really is taking any momentum out of my idea to actually go to Dave and Buster's in October.

I'm guessing they'll have just one side game a day.
Come on, Jeemie, auditioning's fun!

And now the splash of cold water...
-Last year they started taping in August and were done by early November.
-This year per the audition reports they started taping in late June.
I have a feeling they will be done with their casting and are only using the D&B audition as a publicity event and a chance to cast last-minute substitutions for the final tapings including movie week. They could start casting for 2015-2016, but who has received a call for the next year based on a prior year audition? Will there even be a 2015-2016 season of WWTBAM?

I agree with jarnon's guess that they'll use one side game per day. Gotta keep changing them up for variety, just like TPIR.

The Tickets page of the website says they'll be taping June - October. And from looking at the dates they currently have available for tickets, the taping schedule has a lot of off time between taping runs.
Sunday, August 24th
Monday, August 25th
Tuesday, August 26th
Thursday, August 28th
Friday, August 29th
Saturday, August 30th
Sunday, August 31th
Saturday, September 27th
Sunday, September 28th
Interesting that they're working weekends, too.

The weekends I am guessing are either to accommodate Terry's schedule, and/or to attract more people to be in the audience without having to pay the audience. I would imagine there would only be one side game a day, like before introducing a new contestant...I also think the October auditions are just for publicity.

I agree- only a few taping dates, most likely, left between that auditon and the end of the taping season.
I think I am out.
