Weird rant time.

Monday, I got one of those slips in the mail indicating I had a certified letter. Now, I don't recall the last time I got a certified letter at home, and to me it usually means something unpleasant.

Worse still, it listed the ZIP code of the sender -- which happens to be the ZIP code of my office.

Needless to say, I didn't sleep much Monday night, fretting about it. Bill collector? I don't owe anybody anything late. IRS or other tax authorities? Wrong ZIP code. So I puzzed and I puzzed 'til my puzzler was sore. I asked around the office on Tuesday morning, but nobody knew anything of it.

I went to the post office at noontime Tuesday (per the instructions on the card), but they couldn't find the letter. They said the carrier might still have it, please sign the slip and he'll deliver it later.

No letter in my box the balance of the week, so I'm getting less worried and more frustrated.

So, I went to the post office again when they first opened this morning, before they got busy. And they found it straight away.

And the envelope please...

The letter was from my proctologist reminding me it was time for another colonoscopy

Well, it was something unpleasant. Just not what I imagined.

So, why do I let myself get so worked up on these things?

Maybe your system just needs a thorough, um, cleansing.

Seriously, I don't know. They'd sent two earlier notices (which I had ignored), and this mailing said they sent it certified to "emphasize the importance of the procedure."

I'll get it done after my upcoming vacation. But I'm going to look into having it done by another group. And if so, I'll let these folks know why.

I'd say that emphasizes the importance of getting a proctologist who has some actual interpersonal skills.

Hey, if you dealt with nothing but assholes all day, your interpersonal skills would be lacking, too.

Sure, ignore the certified letter. The next reminder notification will come by singing telegram....
