L'il Spock is getting grounded

#1 Post by Spock » Fri Jul 25, 2014 9:52 pm

He is 16 and does not seem to grasp the whole concept that he should be hanging out with friends and getting in a little trouble. He will not go anywhere. He is busy with sports and all that-but he doesn't leave otherwise. I know that he doesn't want to get in trouble because of sports(he should see significant varsity Basketball minutes this year).-But this is getting ridiculous.

Mrs. S and I were joking tonite that he should be grounded until he goes out and gets in a little trouble. It is a joke-but I am almost serious about it.

It is the summer between 10th and 11th grade-C'mon you darn kid-DO SOMETHING!!!!!! You only get that summer once.

Hope you don't mind if I make a suggestion.

Okay, tough shit I am anyway. :-)

Have his friends over. After a couple of times the other parents will reciprocate in fairness.

You may have done this already but it was what I thought when I read your post.

He did go golfing with a buddy last night so that was good. I think the problem is that he has not fully conceptualized the freedom that his driver's license brings.

Other summers-he has done a lot of 4-wheeling with buddies-but that core of friends seems to have kind of split up.

I went to the lake a lot at his age-but the "Rough" crowd hangs out there-and he has no interest in talking to them(which is good-I guess).

I was a regular at three bars my SUmmer between 10th and 11th grade, I was 17 then mind you, but still. Can't imagine your kid would do that.

At 16, middle Jaybee son often talked about how drinking was stupid.

Now at 21, he just returned Saturday from 8 weeks backpacking around Europe. He was going over his expenses and proudly announced that he only spend half as much on beer as he did on food!

(Actually he did quite well. He budgeted for $50 a day. Wound up spending $49.56 per day including all travel expenses.)

But he did drink a LOT of beer and wine.
