Noted author who wrote Helter Skelter, about the Manson murders, with prosecuting attorney Vincent Bugliosi. He also wrote a detailed biography of J. Edgar Hoover, published in 1991, and co-wrote with Francis Gary Powers, Operation Overflight, a 1970 book about Powers' ill fated U-2 mission.
