6ABC in Philadelphia reported that Mariela Castro was among the victims. She was a gay rights advocate in Cuba (good luck with that) and attended an LGBT conference in Philly last year. She was the daughter of Cuban President Raúl Castro and the niece of Fidel Castro (which may have given her more leeway to support controversial issues than the average Cuban). She was almost 52 years old.
UPDATE: 6ABC just broadcast a correction: Castro was NOT on the plane.
